My Daughter & I started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Many believe that, at 40, I'm too Old. Do you agree with them or do you still have some gas in the tank to try it out? Let me know in the comments.

When this doesn’t work out, there always is professional wrestling. Get on the independent circuit and before you know it, you’ll be back to wrenching…

Not only are you NOT too old, it’s probably one of the best things you could start doing at this age. I started at when I was 36. I’m 39 now. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’ll influence everything you do outside of training, for the better. You won’t regret it.

I'm a 50 year old Brown Belt (one stripe). With your former experience you surely can do it. However, I would first ask you to slow down in trying to be dominant in your rolls (80% is a lot) and wait until your body hardens a bit to the art/sport. - You already have a head start with the wrestling. Most BJJ guys will never, ever be ready for a wrestler. Use that to your advantage and master takedowns again (especially foot sweeps). Takedowns will be your ticket to controlling rolls as it puts you in position to control the "fight." Next master pins (side control, mount, back control, north south, etc.). That will allow you to slow rolls down to your speed and then people will give you submissions to get out of them. Always work on escapes. If you can't be tapped, you will not have to ever worry about escaping bad positions with most people. As you look to be about 6 ft + and around 200 lbs, you will be able to control most rolls if you work on the above attributes. - Additionally, I would say, buy a grappling dummy A TeJay or Grappling Smarty. That will allow you to practice so many basics that you will not be able to do in the gym or even a rolling partner outside of the gym. You can advance quickly doing that. - But the main thing is to not worry about winning rolls right now, showing what you know. It will lead to a lot of quick or permanent injuries. Slow down and learn what you need to know and what to be careful of. It is okay to say, "Hey, I'm new, I don't know what I'm doing, can we roll slow." Especially with wild guys. You are fresh meat to a lot of these guys (white and blue belts) and they will go extra hard to prove a point. Don't buy into it.

Is this what the garage has come too? Wow. Miss the old days. All the bikes are gone. The tools and everything.

Look, you have an audience of 41k because theyre here for your mechanic experience and tool videos. Thats a valuable thing. You're alienating every one who supported you.

If you're going off and bonding with your kid its one thing. But trying to say you can make this jujitsu stuff into more than a hobby is just insane. Its not worth the injuries. You're responsible for yourself and other people. Running up medical bills and not being able to work due to injury is foolish. I get it, were all getting older and we can all benefit from more activity. But be sensible.

You're sitting in a cluttered room with ants crawling on you saying you sold your tools to survive. Come on man. We all have bad periods in life. Dont make it worse.

Not too old. I follow you close and somehow missed your law enforcement video and just saw it. You’re a veteran so le is a perfect fit. A lot of guys get in late in life career change I was lucky. I started out at 21 and retired 2 years ago. Decided sitting home was not for me so I started back as a deputy. Long as your record is clear. Your golden. Believe me. They are starving for quality applicants. The JJ craft will help big time when you’re out there being a cop and getting it done. I’m sure you have aged out but CHP would be awesome. I use to watch CHIPS and 😴 dream
