How to instantly USE the Pentatonic scale in ALL five patterns

56% of all guitarists that we surveyed don't know where root notes are located in all five Pentatonic patterns. Without this knowledge, you can't effectively use the Pentatonic scale. This lesson was created to help many of my students that take private lessons from me.

Dude, I don't know who you are, but I've been playing guitar, LEAD guitar, for 5 decades- successfully. I woulda answered your question "Yes" and woulda been sincere. I almost stopped the video right then, but thank goodness I didnt! At rehearsal this evening playing "Gloria!" I ripped a solo using your method, and the band, and I myself, were all stunned! I played that solo for a good 5 minutes straight and NOBODY wanted to stop! I was playing like Johnny Winters- if you were watching you wouldn't have been able to tell what key I was in because I bounced it all over the neck like I never have in 5 damned decades! I'm not an excitable man, but my goodness, brother, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU,

Shame on me. 30 years in and I haven’t memorized all 5 patterns. I’m making this my new goal. As always, thanks so much Doug

Great lesson Doug! I have one of your old books from the 80s around here somewhere. Great to see you're still at it. I dont know about you, but I'd go back to the 70s or 80s in a heartbeat. Take Care, brother.

Thanks Doug. This is a great lesson that I am going to have to watch again (and again and again) to master. I thought I knew the pentatonic as I can go at it up, down, sideways; but you stumped me by going root to root! This is definitely my new goal!

Excellent lesson Doug. Many thanks. It will help me navigate much better within the five positions.

For anyone wondering how his Zoom lessons are, I feel they are superb.

I met with him 2 days ago and he cleared up some questions I had related to alternate picking, increasing speed, etc.

He helps compress the learning curve, as he can convey information & answers, quickly and succinctly. I’ve found him to be an invaluable deep well of knowledge.

Love this. I have already been working through the root to root patterns. Until you pointed it out, I didn't see the repeated shapes. Thanks!

Good lesson. I'm already taking your course, and am enjoying it very much. When I practice pentatonic scales, I try to envision each scale existing within a different inversion of a minor chord.

08:03 I use this, to play Pattern 1 at any position, on any string. Because Pattern 1 is always automatic for me to play, but the other patterns I sometimes forget. I haven't practiced them nearly as much, although I should. So I usually end up feeling a bit guilty that I resorted to playing Pattern 1 everywhere throughout a solo, rather than play different patterns. The listeners don't care though and later tell me "whatever you were doing, it sounded cool." shrug. Maybe they are dazzled by my amazing hair flips 😂

Hello Doug,
I am an old school 80's Heavy Metal (not speed or thrash metal, even though they are cool genres in their own right),
I remember you were in a band Hawk in the 1980's. How is the band doing and are you still in contact with the other guys?
I bought a video tape version of the complete Metal Method guitar lessons in 1993 (33 years ago, and recently found them).
Do you think that the lessons are still relevant? Will they still help me become the Heavy Metal guitrist I still want to become?
Best Regards,
Ernie
P.S. You are still the awesome Metal Master from back in the day! I am glad that to see that you still have your hair!

Sorry about the bad grammar, my spell checker is not working well. The first line should have read: I am an old school 80's Heavy Metal Fan who aspires to become a great metal guitarist.
