Stannis Baratheon - You Are My Daughter - Princess Shireen - Game of Thrones Season 5

Ok so after Stannis missed out on the father of the year award in season two when he told Shireen that her best friend Ser Davos was rotting in a dungeon for being a traitor. He redeems himself in season 5 with a moving scene.

What I love about this is that Stannis stays in character as a dispassionate and aloof man, yet at the same time manages to communicate his love for his daughter.

I hate where their story went, but I will always love this scene.

"Were you bored a lot too?" Sees through him like glass, and I like that he just respects her intelligence and moves on to the next argument.

"No doubt he heard of your birth, and assumed new fathers were easy targets." Stannis said with sneering derision at such acts of foolishness, "Anyway, I bought the doll..."

"She shouldn't have said that." Always gets me. He's aloof and very cold, but the way he'd address Selyse talking down on their daughter speaks loads about his love for her.

And then Stannis and Shireen marched to King's Landing, Tommen happily surrendered the throne and the Baratheon family lived happily ever after....

This scene kills me every time. It's so cruel to show how much Stannis loves his daughter, then have him burn her at the stake a few episodes later. It was Fathers' Day in the US, too.

They really killed the Stannis character with that bullshit move. Stannis values family more than anything, he values a "Baratheon". He is as they said a truly just man. The man survived a year eating rats and so on. He gets stuck in snow for a couple of days and feels it necessary to burn his daughter.... "Half my man are non believers" "There shall be no more burnings, pray harder" are some of the lines he spoke in the books. He knew he couldn't burn anyone because half the army would leave... Clearly the show didn't just make Stannis an assholem, it made him stupid aswell... This scene is showing Stannis true character as seen in the books. Then they fucked it up completly

It's always interesting to see the parenting of Characters, usually the 'You are My Son' line is used with dismay, but here it's powerful, it shows the love Stannis has for his daughter, rather than the idea of a tool or heir like Roose and Tywin had for Ramsey and Tyrion
