Stannis is truly one of the most complex, well written characters in modern fiction

Notice how whenever D&D lifted straight from the books they featured some of the best scenes in the show?

I never ask for this.. no more than ask for then ask to be king. We do not choose our destinny. But we must do our duty. "Great or small". We must do our duty.

We STANNIS uttered those words I became his follower, in this life and the next. One true king STANNIS only.

Chills all over. Stephen Dillane is one of the best actors

The incredible thing is that Stephen Dillane didn't believe his text for a second, he didn't understand the whole story, by his own admission... But suddenly, it gives him this disconnected and hallucinated look that makes Stannis so fascinating as a character

Stannis is like the king we need, but we instead always choose the one who lies to us and hypes us up instead... the reason is because Stannis is too real, and we are so afraid of what comes next, when a realist would become king, of what we would become, our real selves, rather than the jolly fools that we are now.

I love this scene so much. It's so clear throughout that Stannis doesn't believe what he's saying that it's almost redundant to have Davos call him out on it.

The best part is 1:14. Stannis seriously pauses as he considers Davos' reasoning, and the line delivery of "so did Renly" perfectly conveys Stannis as pathetically attempting to come up with reasons to justify this abhorrent act. *Incredible* acting.

3:08 "I saw it" - "When you see the truth, when it's right there in front of you, as real as these iron bars, how can you deny her god is real?"

Whe he says "a great battle in the snow" my bones tremble and my eyes soak. Every single time

Their relationship is almost similar to Robert and Ned Stark's. Stannis named Davos his Hand like Robert did with Ned, in both cases they were best friends, even as brothers, both Davos and Ned were so loyal that went as far as disobeying the other and just like Ned, Davos knows extremely well Stannis to the point of being aware what he is in his mind

Dialouge between stannis and davos is the best in all of GOT

The irony is that Stannis part (at least in the show) was small rather than big. But still crucial for a lot of things. He came to the rescue at the end of season 4. His ships helped save thousands of people at Hardhome. And his attack on Winterfell allowed Sansa the opportunity to escape. So he played his part, just not as he had expected.

i find myself keep coming back to watch this scene. the charm of it somehow never fades. its so real, and stannis is such a perfect character.

when davos tells him about his fear of his son being afraid of death, you could see stannis really being touched by it, it was a death blow to kick some sense into stannis, but that's when davos realized stannis might be gone, as the truth comes out of him, witnessing a religious moment, made him a blind zealot, and he no longer possesses an empathy as great as his belief in his new found faith.

Fascinating how no one is talking about 2:50 here. One of the greatest line of the entire freaking show and I will die on this hill.
