Ukraine-Russia conflict: Battles in key eastern Ukraine city as EU struggle to agree Russian oil ban

EU leaders in Brussels have failed to come to an agreement on an import ban of Russian oil.

Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose country is heavily dependent on that oil, accused the European Commission of "irresponsible behaviour" for trying to push forward with an all-out ban.

EU leaders are now pinning their hope for agreement on a watered down deal, which would ban imports by sea but allow those by pipeline.

While in Ukraine, heavy fighting continues in the eastern Donbas region. The focus of Russian forces at the moment is the city of Severodonetsk. It is one of the last Ukrainian-held cities in the Luhansk region and taking control of this, along with Donetsk region, is a key Russian objective.

The governor has reported Russian troops were advancing into the centre of the city.

I don't understand the lady's point, she said that Ukraine had security guarentees and was a neutral state but that's not the current situation or reality because Ukraine has not been neutral since 2014 (almost a decade). Ukraine literally became a pseudo NATO state and an output in a proxy war with the Russians after the 2014 coup.

Whatever Ukraine was from 1991-2014 no longer exist, they became a willing participant in a proxy war. Fighting a war for NATO while NATO itself privately tells them that they are far from membership so in the end it was technically pointless bloodshed. After 8 years of fighting they are no closer to being accepted into NATO.

Zelensky himself has literally said that NATO has privately told him that Ukraine is many years away from possible NATO acceptance.

Ukraine cannot now say in 2022, "we were minding our business and the Russians came", no you are a party and a participant at this point.
