What is nutritional yeast?
Nutritional yeast is a type of yeast that is a microbe that is inactive. It’s different than bakers yeast, which is an active yeast. You need to be sure you’re consuming non-fortified nutritional yeast. My version is non-fortified and does not contain synthetic vitamins.

Health benefits of nutritional yeast:

• It has a complete amino acid profile
• It has minerals and trace minerals
• It has B vitamins
• It has glutathione
• It has selenomethionine

What does nutritional yeast taste like?
Nutritional yeast has a slightly cheesy and nutty flavor.

Nutritional yeast is different than yeast extract, which is used as a food additive, and flavoring and also contains glutamate.

Yeast extracts:
• Vegemite
• Marmite
• Tasty yeast

Nutritional yeast uses in your diet:

1. Broths
2. Sauces
3. Soups
4. Salads
5. Curries
6. Eggs
7. Veggies
8. Dips

I made a simple salad dressing by adding nutritional yeast to evoo and acv. I added all ingredients to smoothie blender to combine! It was delicious! I include it to my eating plan daily! 🙂

I take mine in warm water. One heaping tablespoon in about 4oz of warm water and just drink it down. I've grown used to the taste and actually like it.

I suffered from cracked heels for about a decade until I started taking this nutitional yeast in recent weeks. My heels are smooth and I can now walk for hours on end without soreness. I just add the flakes to food such as salads, soups or anything which has a sauce content to absorb it into my digestive system and heal my inflamed liver. This is so good that eventually you won't need to consume as much yeast as your liver heals itself naturally.

I take two tablespoons daily mixed with sharp cheddar or other cheese before I eat my eggs close to noon. Its a huge boost of energy and feels great taking it.

Since I'm transitioning to being a 90% vegetarian, I've been consuming Nutritional Yeast more often (3-5x per week) for 3-4 months in smoothies and other foods. Been getting compliments on my skin which is a great bonus. Thanks Eric, for breaking it down and giving us the basics!

Creamy scrambled eggs with two heaping tablespoons of nutritional yeast mixed in at the end has become one of my favorite breakfasts.

I am on Day 5 of Dr Berg's Keto plan with Intermittent fasting. The detoxing from the first 3 days was uncomfortable, but I have so much more clarity and energy already! I am so excited to add Non-Fortified Nutritional Yeast to my daily recipes! And thanks to everyone for your comments and ideas on how to use it. This is an amazing community! Thank you Dr Berg!

Here's a recipe I make sometimes when I need more veggies in my diet (so a few times a week)
Make this according to your own taste
Celery
Onion
Loads of cloves of garlic
Kale
Broccoli
Zucchini
A few mushrooms
Bok choy
Ginger
Cabbage if you can tolerate it (I cant)
BOIL when it boils immediately pull off heat. This will kill the kale a little and soften the veggies without killing of the nutrional content. Now add the juice of 1 lemon, loads of nutrional yeast salt red pepper flakes and FRESH DILL i even but a whole handful of it.
Make a huge pot and boil maybe 1 or 2 eggs. Soft. Done. Sorry i forgot I put ghee or olive oil after it's done boiling.
It's extremely satisfying filling and a vitamin powerhouse you get your greens protein on the side sometimes i skip the eggs and add a few spoons of hemp seeds instead. This is really my favorite recipe. And its not expensive meaning you can make this soup everyday for 7 days and shop for it once. Cause you use some of each veggie. Guys TRY it

Good information Doctor. Very informative. I recently had some bloodwork done and the results showed that my B1 levels are SUPER low😏. I have watched several of your videos about B1 deficiencies; never knew that nutritional yeast helps. I've always had it in the house and used it on occasion for vegan meals. My question is how much of a dosage should a person take and how often throughout the day?

Hi Dr Berg, I know it's the wrong topic but just wanted to let you know got bloods back today and my cholesterol is down from 7.2 to 6.9 the strange thing is I've been on a statin for 10 years and stopped it in June, supplemented Niacin, Lecithin and zerochol. I'm amazed it came down and feel 100% better..

I used to use brewers yeast to help produce milk when I was breast feeding. It was REALLY helpful!

We used Brewers yeast religiously in the 70's. I will try this. Thank you for the info.

My daughter and I love nutritional yeast. I have been using and eating it for 30 years.
We use everything and live the taste. I eat it straight. I like it so much.
I make dips and salad dressings.
Our most favorite way is on popcorn. Buttered popcorn with Nutritional Yeast and pepper, onion, and garlic powder.
Use it any way you can think about it, really.
