When you build your own #InvestmentPortfolio it can be immensely useful to have state of the art examples to look at. There are numerous “off the shelf” portfolios that were built by some of the most successful investors like the All-Weather Portfolio by Ray Dalio, for example. This video is part of a new series in which I explore some of the most successful and well-known #PortfolioStrategies using worldwide low-cost ETFs.

In this particular video, we will look at the #PermanentPortfolio which was designed in 1982 by #HarryBrowne - an investment advisor and author of many finance books.. We will look at what it is, how you can build it yourself and how it has performed in the past - particularly against an All-Stocks and the 60/40 Portfolio. This video goes above and beyond just numbers and charts, but gives you real-world insights. Enjoy!

A key point is that nobody can predict the future. This is where the PP shines. When one asset class falls, you buy more of it. I suggest Craig Rowland’s excellent book on the PP. Personally I am a big fan of this portfolio at my stage in life (early 50s).

I've really been enjoying this series about different portfolio models and better yet, how we can build them ourselves. Even if we don't want to copy these designs completely, I appreciate that you give us fund ideas for the individual components. Great work and your channel really stands out as unique in what you present! 👍

I'd imagine that Browne wanted to hold the cash to have liquidity for other opportunities. He talked about building free time into your schedule to be ready to take advantage of an opportunity and maybe this spilled over into this?
