As a student who have used the iPad 9.7 (2018) for taking notes for 4 months none stop (and sold it and upgraded to the new 12.9”), I recommend the regular iPad. The new iPad Pros are nice but I don’t think they are worth it. The new pencil’s tap feature is actually annoying since it keeps switching between writing and erasing unintentionally more often than you think when you actually use for an extended period of time (I disabled that feature). The 120hrtz screen is nice but it doesn’t justify the price. The 9.7 is light and is the perfect size for taking notes, studying in your bed if you want to, and everything else. Of course I can only speak from my experience with the 12.9” as the 11” might be a different story. As a side note, I also bought the keyboard and it makes the iPad Pro so much more heavier and unwieldy when using it on your bed (or pretty much anywhere you don’t intend to type) Hopefully this helps someone out.

Sticking with my iPad Pro 10.5”.

-A10X is extremely powerful as it is and this iPad still runs on iOS. No difference in software if you upgrade.
-Screen size is perfect for me.
-I prefer Touch ID 2nd generation than Face ID. Period.
-I think the 10.5” is way sexier. I mean, the small size of the bezels never gets old.
-Headphone jack. 2018 Pros removed it.
-Both have 4GB RAM and I would never need 1TB of storage on an iPad, so I’m not spending a ton of money for it mainly to get 6GB RAM. And the reason the 1TB model has 6GB is for storage management. And apparently, people are noticing the 1TB models are slower than the others.
-The Apple Pencil 1st generation is better in my opinion.
-The Smart Connector is in a more logical place in my opinion.
-iOS 12 brought the new gestures to all compatible iPads.
-OIS
-Cheaper (Even though I don’t care for that one seeing how I already have a 10.5” Pro.)
-All apps have to be updated to the new 11” and 12.9” screens.
-The 10.5” has an equally amazing display. (Don’t get me wrong, they upgraded the display on the new Pros but it’s definitely not going to get me to spend $800 on it)
-The Lightning Connector. I personally like it better. A lot.

There’s more, don’t get me wrong (Like the fact the 2018 Pro’s are so much less durable) But I highly doubt anyone will read this whole thing so, for now, that’s all I’m going to say.
If you’ve read this whole thing, have an amazing day!!

I don’t get the removal of a headphone jack on a huge iPad.

After about 10 days of use I returned my 11” and bought a 10.5”. I prefer the 10.5” for the following reasons: 1) Headphone jack because I use wired headphones constantly; as many pros do. 2) Better camera for video because of OIS. 3) Apps work great across the board; it will be a while before all my apps get upgraded to the 11” odd aspect ratio. 4) The curved casing has superior structural strength to the 11” square edges...it’s noticeable. 5) 11” had a lot of USB-C bugs causing network dropouts and camera failures requiring reboot. It’s the first iOS device with USB-C and seems rushed. 6) The expensive curved edges on the display quickly seem like a gimmick. Cool at first but you actually pay more and lose information density. For pros working in a mission critical environment I recommend waiting out this generation. Stick with the refined quality of the 10.5”. If you are just buying for home media consumption the 11” may be OK if you only use wireless headphones.

That Michael Jackson beat was cool. If iPad Pro 2018 came with the Pencil or 128GB it would be better. $800 for only 64GB is a no for me

2018 iPad 6th gen is still best bang for your buck for the average user. I’m a techie and love the latest and greatest, but I had to step back and realize I don’t do any technical and demanding work on an iPad. It’s a media device for me and the 2018 iPad fits the bill perfectly

You get the space grey and black bezels and you can’t even notice the screen being non-laminated unless you go out of your way to try and look for it

I am going to stick with my 10.5 ipad pro. The design is more durable and does the job very well.

Well I cannot agree with you. You are recommending to people to buy a 799+taxes iPad. That price is insane. You can get a IPad Pro 10.5 inch for 500 bucks in sale. Face ID, a slightly better camera on the 2018 iPad Pro don’t make it worth that kind of money. The faster processor is without any doubt an improvement but unless you are a graphic designer you won’t see any difference with the 10.5 iPad Pro.

If you are a student and would like to use it as a side gadget for note taking, the Ipad 9.7 is perfect and I think the iPad pros are too expensive for their price. It's true speakers are trash but again, it is a side device and not your main machine.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a used A grade 10.5 iPad 512GB with cellular to replace my 5 year old iPad Air. I paid the same price Apple is charging for a new Wi-fi 64GB 10.5. I couldn’t be happier.

Sounds like this is doing nothing more than pushing people towards dropping $1, 000 for a new iPad

I had a 2017 12.9 inch iPad, loved the display and the speakers and all. Bought it to give online lessons and to compose. I later found out that there aren’t many good apps in the AppStore for musicians and composers (Avid please come to your senses and bring Sibelius to iOS!) and that’s when started to feel the lack of purpose for my Pro model. Bright spots along the edge where the smart connecter is started to show up after a year. Bothered the crap out of me but my mom didn’t really mind since they weren’t as apparent when you’re staring straight at the screen, so I gave the iPad Pro to her and bought a 2018 iPad. Sure it only has 2gb of ram, sure there’s the air gap (which isn’t really noticeable if you pick space gray because the bezels are black), sure the speakers sound sad. But it’s light, it’s small, and most importantly, it doesn’t hurt as bad when I accidentally drop it on my face when using it in bed. I still get to teach my students online while I’m away, and I still get to use my Apple Pencil. If you’re not going to be doing professional tasks such as video editing or drawing/sketching that require a powerhouse like the iPad Pro, go for a regular ol’ iPad, it can handle pretty much all the everyday tasks. Your wallet will thank you.
