iPad 10th Gen: 2 Weeks Later - The Most CONFUSING iPad

This is the 10th generation iPad, Apple’s latest ipad in their budget lineup. It’s got a whole new design change and an all new price tag. Yeah. Is it worth picking up? Let’s find out with a little review.

Out of the box you get a usb c to usb c charging cable, a charging brick and the ipad itself. The ipad takes on the design of the iPad Pro and Air lineups with flat edges and backs, and it removes the headphone jack along with the design change. But it does have both a landscape front facing camera orientation which no other iPad has. The screen size and physical dimensions are very similar to the iPad Air. What sets this ipad apart though is a lower $450 starting price tag and the older A14 chip vs the M1 that’s inside the iPad Air. Beyond that it has the details of every other ipad. A nice to look at Retina display, a singular 12mp back camera, a fingerprint sensor on the top right and speakers on the top and bottom of the ipad, 5g support for the cellular model and a usb type c port for charging. Overall the body got a much needed design update and is now consistent with the rest of the iPad lineup.

Using the ipad 10th generation is fine. Everything feels smooth when scrolling and in general usage. And it’s what you expect out of an ipad. The speakers sound decent, not as great as the ipad pros but this is half the price. The back camera takes decent pictures, and that’s really all you need out of a tablet. With the front facing camera now in landscape mode, it makes it easier to multitask while you're on a call and works better when attached to keyboards. Battery life isn’t an issue and it lasts as long as the other ipads, and it passes the Genshin impact test with flying colors giving smooth gameplay even at medium settings, 50fps. I think most people who use this ipad will find that it will do most of the things they want out of their ipad just fine. So when it comes to being an ipad and doing ipad things, this thing does the job and it does it well.

So, now that I’ve cleared how I feel about this iPad, I think there’s been a big question mark about this device. If this ipad is so confusing, who is this iPad for then? Like, what customer will look at this and see a perfect fit. Despite some of it’s compromises I think there’s still a market for an ipad like this. It’s for someone who wants an ipad that’s nicer than the 9th generation ipad and is willing to pay a higher price but doesn’t care much about using the signature ipad accessories such as the apple pencil 2 or magic keyboards. And if all of that is good enough for you to personally purchase it at the $450 price tag then feel free. So, if those upgrades from the 9th generation, and deficiencies from the air makes sense for you, it’s still a decent ipad. But could I at least recommend you shop around first? There may be some older 2020 iPad Airs that have slightly better accessory support still available for purchase.

Honestly if it had apple pencil 2 support it would have been the greatest iPad of all time, being both affordable and convenient

I’ve been looking for an iPad to buy and honestly the 10th gen fit my bill really really well, I’ve had it for a couple weeks now and can tell you that the Apple Pencil support is not a big deal at all, you only have to charge the pencil maybe once every couple days depending on your usage and with the right case it sits on top of your iPad in a convenient spot at all times. I paired it with the Logitech combo touch and it became exactly what I needed. I didn’t want to invest into an air or pro because I also don’t need the extra power because I have a MacBook Pro for that, and I also didn’t want to get the base 9th gen iPad, so opting for the 10th gen just happened to work out perfectly for me, I use it everyday and it gets done everything I need it for really efficiently.

I think it makes sense in some ways because current iPad owners already have the Apple Pencil 1 and would not want to pay more to get the pencil 2. But the design change means other accessories like the keyboards will not be supported. But also, too expensive.

I feel like if they just kept the price at $329, this would have been a perfect successor to the 9th generation iPad. Heck, even if they increased it to at the most to $379.

Good informative video 👍I got the mini 6. It's shot up in price! I bought it in September and now it's over £100 more in places! My boyfriend is getting me the second gen pencil for Xmas. So exciting!!

I purchased this iPad for university, and you are right, one of my reasons was that it is just nicer than the 9th Generation. The whole apple pencil fail is ridiculous imo, but I feel like I found a good way around it by getting the logitech crayon instead of an apple pencil. It's a lot cheaper to get the iPad 10th Gen + the Logitech Crayon instead of an Air + the Gen 2 Apple pencil, and while the Crayon will have to be charged seperately, that's still miles better than having to go through the whole ordeal with Apple Pencil Gen 1 + dongle + cable

I was looking for a IPad specifically for my art so the pencil was a must, I myself don't speak for others when I say this, but I don't see the issue with buying the adapter and connecting it that way. It is a poor design choice but I still don't mind the extra steps personally. I paid about 596$ for the IPad 10 with the g1 pencil, and adapter. The IPad air with the g2 pencil was definitely out of my price range but 122$ ( I think ) more isn't that bad for what you get in retrospect.

Thank you! This review helped a lot for me. Am considering updating my 8th gen but have felt confused about what is causing me to draw my ears back so to speak🤔
I am however leaning towards air or pro...but agreed on the pricetag and the stream of accessories that probably will need an upgrade too😅 thanks for the video tho'!

I got it just the day before yesterday, and i honestly really loved it! My Uncle especially brought it too me to replace my old one! Although the ONLY troubling is the fact I can’t use my old Apple Pencil with it anymore but that fine!

I just bought one for myself today. I am going from iPad Pro 10.5 to iPad 10th generation and using it right now. It was a big upgrade for me. Been 4 years with the 2018 so I wanted a new one

For me I’m happy with my iPad 9. I’m an artist on a budget and yet Im still able to make great illustrations on a 10.2 inch screen. The ONLY reason why I’d even think about an ipad 10 would be the larger screen. Having said that 7/10ths of an inch isn’t that big of a difference to me. So, I’m gonna stick with my ipad9 and my Apple Pencil 1. It’s fine folks. Oh and one more thing….I STILL love the headphone Jack and home button.

I found an open box blue 64gb for $300. Feel it was a great deal, then a week later the new sale price was $349. Whatever its still a great iPad. Just got the Logitech trackpad case and it made it worth feel more like a laptop. Now I just gotta figure out all the functions of this thing! I’d recommend em both

I had an iPad 6th gen which served me well, and except for some keys on the keyboard not responding well, it still works. So I upgraded to the 10 th gen a few days ago, and have not looked back. If I do get an Apple Pencil 1, charging it would not be an issue, as I will use my 6 th gen iPad to do so. I have no regrets getting the 10 gen ipad. It has a big screen, good stereo speakers, c charging port, centrally placed camera to face time in landscape mode and colourful display. That’s good value for me.

Nice video!
I've been looking for a new iPad (don't need one, want one) for some time now.
The M1 iPad Air is quite expensive here in Europe. The 4th gen iPad Air is around €520 ish.
The 10th gen iPad is €589 -> $640 which is waaay to much for what it is. The 2022 iPad Air starts at €700 and goes up to almost €1000 for the 256gb model.
Based on the euro price, non of them are worth it at the moment.

I'll stick to my 2018 iPad for now.

Thanks for the video! I'm not sure what background music you used here, but it sounded a lot like my alarm clock, my body reacted strangely to it... haha

Hi Jimmy, Thank you for such a great review! It's thorough, informative and honest!! For someone like me who probably wouldn't use it for the keyboard or the pencil, for entertainment purposes, this is probably right up my alley so to speak lol

I upgraded from the iPad mini 2 to iPad 10th gen and I’m loving it. I think it all depends on what you’re upgrading from, your budget and what you’re going to use it for 🎉

The perfect case of "There are no bad product, obly bad pricing".

And to be fair, Apple loves to overlap their products.
See Apple Macbook Air and Macbook Pro
If tou upgrade your MBA to 512GB, it is overlapped with MBP 256GB with better screen and speaker, and so on

Hey I just bought and engraved pink 10th gen iPad for my kid’s upcoming birthday. 🤦🏾‍♂️ Now I almost wish I’d gotten her the Air models but I chose this one primarily on the color. 😅 However, your video was extremely helpful in directly answering my questions about compatible accessories. Thanks for that!
