Hi I have a heel ulcer I'm not diabetic I got it after surgery when I broke my tibia and fibula eight weeks ago when they put the half cast in they put it on too tight and I never noticed due to numbing of the area when I had it removed ten days later I noticed an area on my heel that looked like a bruise but a little different so I went back to the dr and they sent me to would care and the wound care gave me a waffle boot to wear well it's been eight weeks and the whole ulcer now is a black thick scab I was told to keep it dry not get it wet and it's really dry and rock hard some of it peeled off and had fresh skin under it but what's left has a sore under it what I want to know is could I remove the scab to have it heal quicker? Or would that leave it open to infection? The main concern I have is due to the location I'm unable to walk and I was cleared to try twenty percent weight but due to the sore I'm unable to do that as it would apply pressure to the area also I'm not able to use my leg due to the fibula that they didn't plate as they should have its split in a way that it is not touching each end of the bone anyways is it normal for a pressure ulcer like this to take so long to heal? They where afraid of it getting infected because it's so close to my tibia plate and apparently infection loves to stick to metal and that would cause me to need amputation and I'm wondering if I'm still at risk for that as well I just want to rip this thing off I'm so tired of it and my leg anyways thanks for your time
