When needing to cough put a pillow against your ribs. They won't expand as much. if you need to sneeze, keep it from happening by squeezing your nostrils together to disturb what's causing it. Usually, it is from something in the air (allergens. Clean your nose however you can. Worked for me. Also, a tool helped a lot. In one of those grabber things you squeeze the handle and the other end comes together to pick up objects so you don't have to bend down. Forget about shoes my injury happened in the middle of December. I have worn flip-flops for 9 weeks now and outdoors. I still have a little bit of aching pain where the ribs connect to the spine. The feet get cold but so do hands, they always have so what's the difference. If you have Crocs you would do better. House shoes with socks if in a cold climate. If you have a recliner...sleep in that. Getting up and down from the bed is the worst for me. Only baby your injury until the most painful time clears up. I was just told by p. therapy person that spoke to me at the grocery store, She said the medical community will tell you if you do their exercises and treatment you can get back to 100% no pain. She said this area of injury will never stop hurting. Cartilage, tendons, and muscle connection to spine. Said babying makes it worse and lack of use makes it hurt. Apparently doing the exercises makes it more tolerable. Also, to just go about your life.

I’m going through this right now. I have a question, but first let me explain my ribs.
4 breaks in first 3 ribs. The 4th break being further down my first left rib by 2 inches feeling like a flap when I breath. It hurts.

My whole left side grinded the railing and was stopped by the huge bowling ball acorn shaped decor at the bottom of the stair well. Sharply detailed. That halted my fall on the railing when I slipped half way down to the bottom, ( saving me from breaking my neck into a controlled fall) ALL left side took the brundt of my fall. At an sharp upward stab at the last moment where I wondered if I was able to miss it enough, yet still grinded if that makes sense.

Anyway. The flap when I’m breathing.
I have bad posture and am constantly trying to remind myself. Even have straps. However I never used them.
NOW that my break is there I’ve been wondering if I should let it heal in a posture that is very upright and fairly comfortable considering, however I know my ribs are being lifted and my shoulders are back where they should be. It feels good right now but it is DRASTICALLY LIFTED compared to my normal posture. I even look 2 inches taller.
Should I let it heal how my posture normally is, or should I take advantage of this and let my ribs heal in a lifted more erect correct posture.

Normally I would say yes but it feels so different. Besides taller my rib cage was also lifted by a couple inches. I reality posture is bad. With scoliosis too. A back roller does wonders for pain. But it’s hard to do right now. I can’t crack my back and it’s driving me insane. It’s what prompted me to try the posture straps again and noticed the significant difference with them on and with a weight on the inside hanging comfortable ( heat sock 🧦) the ones you microwave.
What do you think.

All I know is the first week is the worst. Horrible pain. After that it slowly gets better. I'm in my 3rd week and it still hurts getting out of bed sometimes. Sounds like 4 to 6 weeks is about right to heal.

Yesterday I slips from the marble stairs and its a pain like hell in my left side ribs. Everytime I take deep breath, coughing, changing side during sleeping, bending down to pic something or during sit and walk its a horrible pain in my ribs (left). I slips yesterday and there was not any doctor that time, so I got a pain killer injection by a local medical practisioner for temporary relief.
Today we appointed and consulted by a specialist doctor. He prescribed me some pain killer, calcium and gastric medicines, one waist belt and strictly refuse to use any gel, cream or spray on the ribs. He told me it will take 2 or 3 weeks minimum to get rid of pain. Suggests complete bed rest. 😔

I'm not even sure if I broke something but it's hard to breathe and my ribs always ache so I'm assuming that its logical I could have messed my ribs up?
