I'd say the main difference is where the flexibility/mobility occurs. Flexibility usually refers to your muscles, hypermobility usually refers to your joints. You can be hypermobile and not have good flexibility in some muscles, often as a result of your muscles overworking to support you.

Thanks for the excellent explanation! I remember my gym teachers and coaches always praising my flexibility, but I later found out that I was actually hypermobile. Hopefully the difference between the two will become more well known among those that teach/coach in schools.

some of us dont have the option whether or not to have hypermobility… we are born with it.

I have severe hypermobility, I can literally dislocate and relocate my shoulder and my wrist voluntarily so maybe its good that i wont suffer from shoulder dislocation 😂😢

If I do more push ups and I am hyper it will affect me in injuries ? Should i do something different than push ups . Omg
