Why is Goku so childish in Dragon Ball Super?!

I think it works best in episodes that are made with comedy as the main focus, like the baseball & Arale filler episodes that aren't meant to be taken seriously.

I think it's mostly because circumstances are different in Super. In Z there was always a threat. You never really get to see anyone just in their day to day lives. In Super, you do. It has the nost moments where the Z fighters are just living their lives, not fighting. And for the "threats" in Super:
Beerus: In the movie, he is serious for basically the entire fight. In the show, he's alot more jokey, but also the Beerus in the show took his time with Goku and seemed more patient than the movie one did.
Resurrection F: Don't really have a defense for this one, Whis outright says it's because Goku has never been one to finish fights when he could. But what i will say is that something very similar happened in Z. In the Buu saga, once he and Vegeta get to the Kai's planet, they're offered the potara earings to take care of Buu immediately, but they both crush the earings and say they'd rather fight him by themselves, despite that being extremely risky, and they almost ended up losing because of it.
Universe 6 tournament:No actual stakes for this one, so there was no need for him to be serious. While it is true that Universe 6 and 7 would've swapped Earth's had 7 lost, still, no one was in danger. There wasn't actually a "threat" to the planet.
Goku Black:He was pretty much serious almost the whole arc. When they go to the future, he instantly turns Super Saiyan Blue when Vegeta is defeated, and tries to defeat Black but he was just too powerful at that point. After this, there's the Blue rage scene, and Goku even uses his full power in Blue to try to kill fused zamasu(and half succeeds). He then knows that fusing with vegeta is the only possible way to beat Zamasu now and instantly tells it to Vegeta.
Tournament of power:Even though he is the reason the tournament existed, i want to say two things.
-The universe with low mortal levels were going to be erased anyway and the only reason they're all still here is because of the Tournament.
-At the time of reminding Zeno about the tournament, he didn't know about the whole "all universes will be erased"thing. It was only after the Grand Priest informed every universe about it that he found out. And afterwards, he asks Whis if he could convince Zeno to not destroy every universe, but Whis says it would be a bad idea, so he doesn't. At the Zen-Exhibition, Bergamo managed to convince Zeno to not destroy anything if he wins the fight against Goku. But immediately after that, the Grand Priest tells Goku to not intentionally hold back, so he couldn't even do that. And while he's talking to 17, he says that he's always loves a fight, but can't stand when innocent people die. And afterwards he was serious when he needed to be in the actual tournament, especially towards the end.

You do see the old Goku in Super, that’s just what 5 years of peace followed by one hard fight that makes you nearly untouchable does to you. Every time he starts really struggling or fights someone he finds truly evil, Goku pulls up and fights like original Z Goku. I really don’t know what people are mad about for the most part, it sounds like they got mad and started watching the show with the lens of, “Goku sucks now so I’m gonna hate this.”

Probably Because of the time skip between buu Saga and dbz super cause the time spent was long and was in peace and resulted in less serious situations 😮

I understand disliking this characteristic of Goku, I personally like it, but some people consider DBS non-canon cuz of it… Do they NOT understand what canon means?

I always just felt like he had aged into his silly uncle era. Playing dumb, acting goofy, not taking life too seriously. As long as he locks in when it’s time to fight (he absolutely still does), I’m happy. I’d actually be upset if they made him serious, that isn’t goku at his best.

There are several things to bring up here:
-Dragon Ball was always meant for kids, it is a shonen afterall, targeted at young boys (mostly teens)
-TV standards changed over the past 30+ years, the time slot they chose for super wouldn't allow much of any blood. Besides the Super Manga has much more blood if that's what your lookin for.
-Let's try to remember that Super isnt actually written by Toriyama aside from the last 3 movies, Most of Super was written by Toei with some notes from Toriyama to follow, basically tells them what happens with bullet points, then the writers gotta fill in the rest. Unfortunately they turned up his goofy to another level.
Just posting this to clear up some misconceptions about Super.
