Yamcha's were probably added because he wanted to make him easily distinguishable from the now Adult Goku, even for the tiniest of Little Timmies

I remember there being a fan comic that actually explained Yamcha's scar and even gave background on how he ended up in the desert where Goku first met him. It's called Dragon Ball Elsewhere if I recall correctly.

Remember, Yamcha had a bit of a complex where his appearance was concerned when we first met him. Goku knocked his teeth out and it made him swear revenge on him.

It probably wasn’t a narrative thing Toriyama considered. But… having Yamcha adopt a look that is grizzled, scarred and imperfect compared to how he was when we first met him is somewhat of a character growth.

I don't remember if it was MasakoX or someone else that actually gave props to Yamcha and his scars, emphasizing how he got those through TRAINING. Think about that. How tough was that journey he went through before the 23rd martial arts tournament at the end of the series? That could be deserving of a whole spin-off.

I feel like Toriyama gave Yamcha his scars because he felt like he lacked any defining features with his design prior to the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai arc.

Like, bro, Yamcha was literally TWINS with Tsukutsun from Dr. Slump. 💀

He was a bandit. Him and Puar. I respect his changed ways, but you can't erase his past. He is pretty much right about where he should be. I'd even go as far as to say he is lucky in many ways for his life(s). He does get a lot of hate, but at the same time, he's very accomplished.

People often trash on Yamcha for not being able to stay in 300× gravity (Vegeta's training) prior to the Android arc, but they forget that even Goku almost bit the dust from 100× gravity on his way to Namek, and the difference is that Yancha was able to withstand it for a while and managed to walk out without injury whereas Goku needed a Senzu after his incident...
