I think I've read somewhere in a study that weighted push-ups can become as efficient, if not even more efficient than bench pressing with an equivalent weight in terms of building muscle. The basics have never disappointed: pull-ups, chin-ups, push-ups, dips, rows, squats, deadlifting.

Calisthenics is all i have done for the past 16 years and i really started getting my best results once i started doing a push, pull, split and pushing all sets to failure or very near !

I've always liked bodyweight exercises. I like the honesty and simplicity as well as the fact that they involve other supporting muscle groups that help in day to day life, whereas machines and weighted exercises often isolate individual muscles or muscle groups to maximize size/growth/etc.

Absolutely.. change the angle, add weight, change the depth, time under tension, slow the pace, etc. I love them.

Ring push-ups paused at the bottom for 3-5 seconds and archer ring push-ups will do a great job.

I’ve always used push ups instead of bench presses. It’s just what I got used to while not having access to a gym or bench. Results have always been great.

One added benefit of push ups is that you can really push to failure. Just fall to a knee after your last rep. With a bench the bar would fall on you. It’s one reason I love body weight exercises.

I can confirm. Now I'm not jacked or ripped by any means, and I'm pretty small (64kg~), but I've seen some pretty immaculate gains from just basic pushups. I used to go to the gym, then covid hit and now all my workouts are at home. Just basic pullups and pushups. Planet fitness recently gave out a free summer promotional pass for teens/young adults, so I went and joined one of my friends for one of their sessions. I tried bench again, and to my surprise my max had increased by almost 40 kilos! Just doing bodyweight basics can really give you a lot for something so simple.

I do this push up circuit
4 circuits minimum 200 reps
5 stages 10 reps per stage
No rest in between stages or if needed 10 secs
1-2 min break after circuit
1. Diamond push
2. Regular or military push
3. Incline push
4. Decline push
5. Deficit push

You can also hit the chest with more angles using different variations compared to benches

To answer this question in the title of the video "Can pushups build muscle?" Yes off course! I like doing ladder supersets using inverted row or jackknife pull ups to go along with push ups. But working out for almost three years, your videos has been a legend to me and all of us.

My favorite is push-ups and rows 1-10-1 pyramid style. The pump is glorious.

The lockdowns had one good effect. They opened up the world of resistance bands. You can absolutely gain mass doing resistance band pushups starting with light bands, multiple bands, heavy bands or multiple heavy bands. The amount of resistance can go as high or low as you want it to go. Example--try doing pushups with a doubled-up extra heavy loop band. Then add a band. Theoretically this can go on forever. Pretty much every variation shown in this vid can be enhanced using resistance bands of whatever resistance you can manage. RB pushups are among the best exercises I've ever done, in or out of a gym. Use loops though, not those tube things.

I miss the old format though - the longer videos on subjects such as: Volume, hypertrophy etc..
