I don't see meditation as a means to train the brain to control thoughts, but to let thoughts go and be ok with the silence and space. Mindfulness books like "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels have been a huge help for me.

Make sure you get the guidance of a therapist if you are trying this and you struggle with dissociative symptoms, because meditation can make these worse if not done correctly.

Love meditation, but hate meditation body scans. I have chronic pain and then I am suddenly aware of ALL of my pain, instead of just the part that's bothering me the most. I do not recommend these body scans if you're in the chronic pain gang.

I have always struggled with this. I understand the powers are meditation are great but having ADHD they said it was severe I have such a hard time meditating and keeping any type of focus so that I can meditate and not have the intrusive thoughts that it is silly or is not helping and ways of self-doubt hitting me constantly especially when I'm trying to meditate

My panic is daily and makes me want to die the main symptom that makes me suffer is the feeling of suffocating sometimes it last days I do all kinds of meditation ice in my hands I hurt myself with staying in painful like exercise positions till it hurts o bad I can’t stand it all I can do is get on my hands and knees and try to breathe and take baths and not sleep the longest lasting almkst 3 days but it is a daily thing that I can’t live with but I have my children and I hate that I have to deal with this my children are my life I hate they have to see me this way, I do go to therapy they do give me low dose 2 a day meds but in bad days it doesn’t touch it it’s like melatonin that doesn’t work .. my dad took his own life for the same problem, I pray I can get better, I feel for those who live this way cause I was dealt this hand and its awful

Sounds easy enough, but why isn't mental wellness more of a common practice amongst a middle aged men? I get the different strokes from different folks, but I have worked alongside some middle-aged guys who seemed to gravitate towards everything else except for the present moment or the task at hand.
