So your doctor has told you that you
Should take a bone drug
Well here’s the first three things you
Should do when you hear those words
Number one you yourself should assess
Your real risk of fracture
You can do this most simply by using the
Fracture risk assessment that i
Of course one important factor is if
You’ve already fractured then we know
There’s something going on you should
Take this seriously
If you have a family history if you’re
Using medications
That increase the risk of fracture like
steroids and antidepressants and
Anti-acids and many other medications
First assess your real risk of fracture
And we’ve written a lot about this
You’ll find the fracture risk assessment
Second ask your doctor to do a medical
Workup looking for the causes of bone
Loss
Looking at things like vitamin d loss of
Calcium in the urine
Parathyroid hormone cortisol level dhea
And most importantly bone breakdown
Level
You see there are many tests that the
Doctors do if they think a person is
Having excessive bone loss
So i always say tell your doctor gee doc
If you think it’s that important that i
Should take bone drugs then it’s
Certainly important enough to find out
If there’s any hidden causes of the bone
Loss
So get my medical osteoporosis risk
My medical osteoporosis work up we’ll
Give you the link to that it’s right on
You take that document print it out and
Take it to your doc and say doc i’d like
Have i
Have i had all these tests if not i’d
Like all these tests
To see if there isn’t any hidden cause
Of bone loss before we start talking
About bone drugs
I can’t tell you the number of clients
Who come in have not been tested for
Anything and are told to take
Bone drugs and then later you found out
They were losing calcium in the urine or
They even had a parathyroid problem or
Their vitamin d was extremely low
Find out if there’s any medical causes
For you bone loss if you really have
Excessive bone loss
And number three of course you should
Take charge and do a complete
Better bones better body program get all
The nutrients like we outline
Develop an alkaline diet really look
Into the exercise remembering that when
You build muscle you build bone
Remember that stress really damages bone
And this is some of the most interesting
New research
Out of columbia university showing how
You sacrifice
Osteocalcin a very important bone
Protein
When you get fearful there are many
Aspects to building bone we have six
Steps to our program
Be sure to do each of those six steps
Simple that’s what you do those three
Things when your doctor says
You should take an osteoporosis drug be
Well we’ll talk later

A friend of mine was told to take bone-building drugs for her osteopoenia. She said "Um, no. I've heard some nasty things about those, so count me out." Her doctor sighed and said, "Yeah, I kind of agree with you."

My trust in doctors is very low, especially during the last three years, I refuse drugs and do my best with nutrition and weight training!

My bone density test results came in to me along with to my doctor. I waited and never heard from her. I called to set up an appointment to go over my results. Instead Kroger notifies me I have a new prescription to pick up. Generic fosamax. My doctor never set up my appointment. Never discussed my results. Nothing. I'm not taking that crap. I'm looking for a new doctor.

I am a medical tech who performs BMD . Recently my Dr suggested I go on treatment as my BMD in my spine is low. I asked him if he could run tests to see the underlying cause as Im very active, get a very could diet, no alcohol etc. He basically said all I can help you with is to give you meds and that’s it. I was so disappointed. I have not started meds and will go see a naturopathic Dr .

I work with horses. Throughbred trainers at Santa Anita were giving horses bone drugs. ( on their own doing, not prescribed by a Veterinarian ). Legs on young horses were snapping at an alarming rate.
My oncologist wanted me on a bone drug and i refused. She asked me to drink only “ Gerolsteiner” German mineral water. I’ve been drinking that or Pelligrino water. They have the highest calcium and magnesium of all mineral waters.

My doctor put me on Prolia without first recommending a dental exam. My jaw bone shrunk significantly on Prolia and my teeth fell out and now I regularly get infections I’ve never had in my life. I’ve never fractured a bone and my fracture risk was only 1% and now my bones are worse off than before Prolia treatments.

Prolia s a very powerful drug that can do more harm than good. It may help some but in my case, it ruined my life.

For the most part you have to inform the Dr what tests you want; most are clueless.
Labs: Vitamin D level
Parathyroid Hormone
Cortisol Level
Calcium loss in urine
DHEA Level
Bone Breakdown Level ✔
Thanks Dr Brown Good to know this info!

Great advice! I stopped listening to my doctors when I realized I need to weigh out the pros and cons of my own HEALth and be as proactive as I can through my choices, food exercise and lifestyle. With that said although I am grateful to have access to Medicare, anything above and beyond that I ask to be investigated in regards to blood work etc, is super costly, however how can you put a cost on your health moving forward in our Golden Years. Thank you so much Doc!!

I have been dealing with this for over 20 years. Had parathyroid surgery in my early 40s. Bone density improved for a while and then dramatically dropped after menopause. Resisted the medications. Haven't had a bone density scan in several years.

i have great intuition. when my endo "strongly" to choose among 3 drugs since i had broken a rib and a foot without effort. my intuition screamed did the research. found all three drugs have serious risks for further fractures. then i read up on natural alternatives. my latest tests came back normal. the prednisone and lack of exercise from 4 years of adrenal insufficiency and cortisone daily ingestion had taken a toll. am now drug free and no recent fractures. ps. my endocronologist was very angry with me and said i was not following the research which just happened to be done by the very pharmaceutical industry selling them. hmm. her issue. not mine.

I don't want to take them at all and that's all doctors want to do.

I have been on HRT for a long time, it's not a bone medication but the side effect is to help bone density. I do ballet, take vit D and eat lots of dairy. I've never broken a bone and while I have osteoporosis it has remained the same and improved slightly.

My doctor recommended a shot every six months. I'm not doing it. Another doctor told me years ago that as we age everyone's bones changes over the years to some degree... I'm going to follow my gut feeling... I am not taking any shots... I feel terrfic in my senior years, and I don't want any doctor experimenting on me...

This doctor is so very right! I had a parathyroid tumor, discovered by my cardiologist, and had it removed. They looked at past medical records and told me I had that tumor for at least the last 7 years! They could tell just by looking at my blood calcium levels which were extremely high! I don’t like what the “bone drugs” ar doing, but I do take 1200 mg. Of slow release Citracal every day plus vitamins K1 and K2 - called Super K. K2 helps move calcium into bones and also does good things for the heart, which I also need.

Getting a doctor in Canada is a dream, not a reality. Wish I could consult with a doctor in person.

1. Don’t take them, 2. Don’t take them, 3. Don’t take them.

Stop going to the doctor unless you have to see them for an ongoing problem.

I take a product "Daily Minerals" by Keto Chow.
The dosage is 1Tbsp but that is too strong of a taste for me. I mix 1 tsp into 6oz of cold water.
It doesn't taste great but my bone absorption blood test showed remarkable improvement in only 3 months!
