I went to college in Mississippi, and while I might consider living on the Coast, I'd never dream of living in Jackson. Unlike most other cities, it has failed to attract young professional people to the city proper. The key to keeping a city alive is getting people to actually live there. In Jackson everyone with money lives in the suburbs, and that's where absolutely all the business is. Even a lot of the government offices have moved away from downtown. They've just abandoned the city proper to rot.

Poverty being the #1 reason isn't a surprise to me. However, I also think crime should be mentioned as the #1 reason. Jackson has a high murder rate for its size.

I agree Jackson is not the best place to live.
However Mississippi is a lovely state with many nice people.

As a native, I can tell you one of the main problems is that the people keep electing the same BS politicians that promise to make things better and are somehow shocked the same politicians that have been there for 20+ years keep doing the same bad job. 😤🙄

Ain't no way in BLUE HELL he came to Jackson, Ms. On a Thursday & the parking lots were empty!!! It had to been after 6:00 p.m. cause the streets & lots STAY PACKED!!! It's obvious you hadn't been through our city & the work traffic!! Dude you gotta be a JOKE!! I will give you credit for some things, but please believe folks LOVE bringing their asses to Jackson, Ms. It's always a GREAT TIME even in the Holes in the Wall!! You'll be amazed of the people who are flocking to live in Jackson, Ms. And it some financially, well to do folks. BLACK & WHITE I MAY ADD! Our city is no different from any other city. Everyone has their ups & downs!

Jackson maybe a Cesspool but the surrounding areas are in much better shape. Don't judge the entire state just from one city.

I've been living here in Jackson for 38yrs and these are all facts we have to travel to surrounding city's to spend our money and lord the potholes in the street's will give you wip blash in your neck not to mention the war zone of crime they need to throw the whole city away..

Let me get this straight, you live in Portland, Oregon and you are telling people to not move to Jackson MS and the number one reason is poverty and homelessness. 🤣 You need to walk outside and try not to trip over all the folks sleeping on the sidewalks. Gee wiz.
