I always like getting a very young fish for cheap and watching it grow.

Bubba and Brad vibin in the back there 😊 My oldest fish Pancake is an oranda, they are pretty hardy however he's sadly not been himself for a couple of months now even after kanamycin and metroplex, epsom salt baths etc. He just slides round the bottom of his hospital tank nowadays and I hand feed him. I sadly think it may be time to let him go 😢🙏 He's my oldest favourite fish

you can keep fancies and comets together, it’s just a little extra work but it’s definitely doable. granted the temperament of your specific fish is super important.

i’ve got two comets and a black moor, they all get along great. the black moor was being kept with comets and shubuken at the petstore, so i decided i’d try him out since he was going to be living with single tails regardless. he’s been working out great, i’ve found if i kinda create two separate drops of food everyone gets all the food they want. i’ll hand feed him occasionally if i feel the comets got too much of the food. the stimulation the comets provide for my black moore is also a huge joy, he’s obsessed with them! certainly happy to report they are living together very happy and healthy.

Can definitely attest to the hardiness of fantails. My girl Sunny was a fantail and I had her from first grade through high school. Obv was young and inexperienced but I like to think she was an old lady

As long as you have the right conditions for your goldfish, they are relatively hardy. Unless they are super in-bred and will die no matter what.

I got 3 fancy goldfish as an impulsive buy from the pet store. Now they have a 250L tank and have gotten so big! They were very cheap and tiny, they basically have changed into completely new fish. They were my first goldfish and why I got into the hobby. Your videos have helped a lot with avoiding some beginner mistakes

I have 2 fan tails. They are much hardier. My big orange male was attacked by a possom or raccoon (I didn't see it, but it ate some of my fish before I started covering my pond.) He had 3 big slashes accross his side....and I thought he's a gonner. He ended up getting some secondary illnesses, which I treated. Now he looks like nothing ever happened. He's kind of a jerk, and my least favorite...and he will not die. Lol
No, I like him, which is why I treated him for costia and flukes and whatever else he's had. Lol

I adopted a fantail goldfish baby from PetSmart a few days ago. It's in my 20 gallon long aquarium alone. I can't believe how adorable he is.

Im suprise that the shubunkin gold fish isn't the one, its not that expensive as other fancy goldfish but can be a little more then a fantail tho, beautiful tho with tri colors and fancy tail and can be in ponds

Fantails and orandas are honestly my favorite types of goldfish (along with black moors), and I love that they’re some of the hardiest too

I kept a pair of fantails in a 55 gallon as a beginner (lucky break huh?) and if I ever get into keeping goldfish again I’d definitely start with a fantail or two, and I’d love to try orandas once I get the hang of providing diligent maintenance but I’d still worry about that wen growing out of hand

I didn't know about goldfish breeds when I got my goldfish, they're orandas but I seem to have gotten lucky because they both have small wens, I haven't had any problems with wen issues after 2 years.

I have 7 goldies in my 55-gallon tank - 4 Shubunkin (one is Sarasa), 2 fantail and what I think is a common that was sold to me as a Shubunkin. The fantails hold their own pretty well. Looking forward to getting a 75-gallon as soon as I find room.

Yes fantails are very hardy! I had 3 goldfish in an outdoor pond, and only the fantail, Squishy, remains. She's 6-7 years old now! The other two were an oranda and a ranchu, and they sadly passed away after 2 years (the ranchu) and 5 years (the oranda). I have a feeling the other two are rather sensitive to water and temp changes. Squishy had buoyancy problems and looked like it took a lot of effort for her to swim (she wiggles a lot and her tail fins are very long; longer than her body and it looked like they dragged around a lot), but otherwise very active and healthy. December last year I added an oranda friend for her, two smol ryukins, one smol strange mix of butterfly tail and a wen and one long-ish ranchu. All of them are young except for the oranda, hopefully they live long and grow big ^w^

I finally got a tank but haven't cycle it yet. I'm going to start with 3 juvenile Ranchus once I get it cycled. I'm excited! I learned so much from this channel and do some research. There's still trial and errors but that's when I'll learn through experience. :) Keep up the great work Luke! PS: I love the fish basement update! 🎉
