I work at The Fish Crew in Fort Collins and it’s one of the saddest parts of the job. I tell them immediately that they should upgrade their tank because it’s like keeping a Doberman locked in a closet its whole life. It is fun to look directly into the eyes of people looking for big fish for a 10-20 gallon tank that I absolutely won’t sell them our big fish and show off all of the appropriate sized fish for the tiny tanks.

Fish commonly do this when the tank is not being maintained properly they are literally struggling to breathe so they try to escape to hopefully find water that hopefully contains more oxygen for them. But they have no idea that there's nothing out there for them except the cold hard ground.
