In this video Dreamcastguy does a brutally honest review for Paper Mario: The Origami King on Nintendo switch. Explained the story, the combat, and the unique way we fight bosses but with a major focus on the lack of difficulty. This game is SUPER easy but the cute humor and great crafted art is still fun.

As with the previous Paper Mario games, in The Origami King the player controls a paper version of Mario in a 3D world that fuses other paper and three-dimensional constructs, including origami sculptures. The player explores the game's overworld to collect coins and items, encounter non-playable characters (NPCs), solve various puzzles based on the paper world concept, and upon encountering enemies, enter into combat to defeat them. Mario can gain various companions over the course of his journey that help to solve puzzles and join in battle for a time. For example, Olivia helps give Mario "1000-Fold Arms" that can reach up to tear back parts of paper environment to reveal secrets. Travel Buddies make a comeback, but unlike older entries in the franchise they will attack enemies when they get the chance, the player will not have any actual control over them. The game uses a ring-based combat system: with the player as Mario at the center of multiple rings, they will need to line up enemies that sit on sections of these rings within a short period and then choose an attack to strike at those enemies that fall within the same arc across all ring, after which the enemies will have a chance to attack. King Olly, who seeks to conquer the world and turn it into origami, seizes Princess Peach's castle and takes control of Bowser's army, turning them into Folded Soldiers. Mario, with the help of Bowser (who was folded into a square) and Olly's sister Olivia, sets out to stop Olly and his henchmen, the Legion of Stationery, who guard the giant streamers binding Peach's castle.

Quick reminder that Thousand Year Door wasn't "cute and wacky and hilarious." It was just a good game.

0 out of 10 because it's not playable on the Soulja boy console.

Pretty much what I thought.
There was an interview with the creators of this game, and I think we simply shouldn't look at these games as RPGs anymore. They haven't really been for a while, but with this and Color Splash it's pretty clear they see these games as adventure games and not RPGs.

Wasn’t paper Mario always designed to be a rpg from the very beginning

Aren’t all of your reviews brutally honest? You’re not one to go soft on a game.

it's frustrating how they refuse to make a great paper mario game, especially since the blueprint for it is sitting on the table collecting dust.

The battle system and xp was the only thing I wanted to have in this game. Unfortunately I won't be picking this one up.

3 disappointing Paper Mario games in a row... Can’t believe they keep making the same mistakes

The criticisms along with wanting to give it away seems odd that it would still come out as a 7.

I'm skipping out on Origami King. I picked up a copy of Thousand Year Door, gonna play that instead.

This game is interesting but I sure miss the old Paper Mario from N64 and GameCube. It's not just nostalgia speaking cause I beat the first one at 11 years old in 2001 but didn't get around to beating TTYD until just a couple years ago.

It is a great game alone if you have never played a paper Mario and it is not meant to be a “traditional rpg”

It’s a big step in the right direction IMO. They still have some aspects of past games that need to come back tho

I’m gonna say it. And I already know people are gonna hate me, but this game seems to be good and not at all bad. The game is definitely better than SS and CS combined, but because it doesn’t have a XP system, it’s gonna be hated. I really hate how the fans can’t accept something new most of the time. Yes, there are fans who really don’t give a crap about how the game is and likes all games equally, like me. XP system or not a game can be good. I hate how people are also thinking this game is bad because of ONE reviewers word. The game is so much better than the last 2 but people just ignore it because “tOo mAnY tOaDs” and “nO XP syStEm!” They did dial down on the toads thankfully and did add more things to actually make you feel emotions, like when peach was turned into origami and eventually became a part of Olly’s castle. And the ending was actually great. They also changed the final boss, it’s no longer bowser so that’s also great. You finally are also teamed with bowser again as well. Overall this game is great and I would give it a 8/10. Sorry for this being too long :/
