It’s okay to walk away from toxic family

Imagine having to beg your mother to realize that you are more important than a broken vacuum cleaner.

My Mom chose her hoarded house over her family and friends. She died 2 years ago, fell down inside her hoarded house and died on the spot. I’ve been clearing out the house since. I want to thank 1-800-got-junk, who have been helpful. Their employees are angels—never any snide remarks. So happy this chapter is almost over!

As soon as she said that she and her husband "produced" children, I knew exactly what her attitude towards those children is.

Her daughter needs her energy for fighting cancer. Not to clean

If you have been kicked out of that many homes I'm inclined to believe that you're the problem

Hearing her say "You aren't here all the time, " exasperates me. Of course grown children aren't there all the time - they are GROWN UP - they are supposed to move out and live their own lives at some point. They have families, homes and jobs of their own, that's how it is supposed to be.

The mom gaslighting her kids for “not being there all the time”…. What a wretched thing to do to your grown kids.

My mother would not have considered herself a hoarder either. She fell over a pile of junk in her bedroom and was taken to hospital. She was in and out for a few weeks and then moved into a care home. It was only then that we realised how bad it was. We have cleared the house and now it is all gone. It took eight months but now hopefully soon someone else will give the house the love and attention it deserves.

Wow. Just, wow. The level of passive-aggression coming from this woman is intense! She does not even recognise that she is a hoarder, so there's no hope for her recovery.

My 94 year old mother entered assisted living against her will after self-neglect put her in a wheelchair so she could no longer climb the stairs to reach a bedroom or bathroom. She chose to bring Dollar Tree knick knacks with her and told us to trash or burn family photographs. She berated us for buying her new clothes rather than bring her the yard sale rags she'd been wearing. "Stuff"/junk means more to some people than friends, family or memories.

I knew the woman wasn't going to be successful when I saw how her hotel room looked. I side with Michelle. As a daughter of a hoarder, I know you cannot argue logic with someone that thinks illogically.

I used to watch this show as a kid and judge these people. As an adult recovering from addiction I finally understand. It’s not about the stuff. It’s about the escape from reality. Which is exactly how you get this bad. I have moments multiple times a day every day, that I cringe thinking of things I did during active addiction, while escaping and avoiding reality I allowed my life to fall into disrepair. I can see how for them, hoarding is escaping reality. For them to come back to reality they have to take stock of all the damage they’ve done, and they have to deal with it. That’s why it’s so hard for these people to give up the stuff and to stay “clean” from hoarding.

House is going to look exactly the same again in 6 months.
Mad respect to the professionals who keep offering help to those that don't want to help themselves- there is always a chance they can still make a difference and perhaps next time they will be ready.

Unfortunate result. Adult protective services will be next and final step for this lady. She doesn't even see that there is an issue

Sad she would rather choose stuff over her own children. Especially with one fighting cancer.

5:15 When the daughter said she suffered more than you can imagine of her mother's wrath by throwing something out. I felt that.
There were so much more meaning behind everything the daughter threw away!

That’s some pretty strong denying going on. What a horrific illness to suffer from. She’s about to be homeless and still wants to keep garbage.
