The son did the right thing. He’s fed up with how everything is. I hope he’s doing well now.

Glad Jacob had the strength to call CPS, had to be so hard for him...just sad that his older sisters didn't do it for him.

I’m glad that Jacob understands that living that way isn’t healthy and wants better for himself and his Mom. Some kids that are raised in environments like this or in abusive households, grow up thinking that it’s normal and have a very hard time breaking the cycle as adults.

Kid had to call cps again after the show. I can't believe that mother put him through it again. So disappointing.

I have sympathy for her and her trauma and the hoarding that results from it. But to refuse the free therapy you got funded through the show afterwards? Oh man. That sucks.

I have NEVER heard a child say that they'd rather be in foster care. I actually didn't think i would ever hear that in my life. Poor kid 😢

It's sad that his sisters didn't call CPS to help their brother. I know that this is a small snippet of the show, but it almost felt like their brother was just an afterthought to them. They wanted all of this for their mom and never really mentioned him...

It's awful that he had to call CPS for a second time...

"...Worked with four organizers. Each quit... She has not used any aftercare funds for therapy." Poor Jacob.

I grew up in a hourder house, it destroyed me and my younger siblings. We were to embarrassed to have dates pick us up, we would wait down the street, on the corner. It totally ruined our teenage and childhood lives.

Can’t imagine how suffocating and depressing living in that house must be for the Son; every adult in this situation should feel deep shame for letting a kid grow up in that filth.

Props to the kid for speaking out. My mom is a hoarder and I’ve called cps on my mom. Anything to get myself out of this situation, the despairity is agonizing.

A hoarders home is full of broken dreams they can’t let go of. It drags everybody down.

1:40 He is a brave young man to do what he did. I know he loves his mom but the way they're living is NOT healthy!

"Mary Lynn's 14 year-old-son Jacob fabricated a story about his mother as a means of getting Child Protective Services involved in cleaning up his home in this clip from Season 3, Episode 12."
What exactly did he fabricate? Theres a reason CPS agreed with his statement and gave an ultimatum instead of hold this sentiment

well done to the son....A close relative of mine is a hoarder and has had no trauma in their am tired of the hoarders saying that their life has been about your son's life living with much worse.

For 18 years of my life, I lived with my "father" who was a hoarder. Not for any mental trauma that did it, he just thought that everyone around him was essentially live-in help, even me and my sister who are his kids, that should do all his work for him, even taking money from others so he doesn't need to work as hard at his job. I already have a bad immune system, but that "house" made it so much worse. I was constantly sick, sneezing, coughing, or throwing up. Second I move in with my noona, I feel like I can breathe. My room is so clean and tidy here compared to that old "house" that I feel like an entirely new person. Living in a hoarder home causes a lot more trauma than others think.

The mom in this clearly has more issues than her hoarding and divorce; she thinks that she never gets any time with her children, but wonders why her son had to call CPS because he felt so hopeless. She needs therapy yesterday, and if she can't handle it, she needs to get her rights taken permanently. She wonders why her ex left her when it seems like she, in general, is INSANELY controlling. Telling her ADULT DAUGHTER that she needs to read the bible as if she's not "religious enough" in her eyes is gross. Yelling at her son about how he should wash himself is also another big red flag. If her daughters live only a mile away from her, then why doesn't she visit them if she feels lonely?!

Child of a person like this, I have a deep loathing for hoarders, yet I come here to look at this just to see if anything has changed in my heart. Nothing has changed.

Description says, "Jacob fabricated a story about his mother as a means of getting Child Protective Services involved ..." REALLY?! I say BRAVO young man for not diminishing your importance. You deserve better as a kid.
