GoPro Hero 9, 10 and 11 SD card errors? GoPro Freezing? Here's how you finally fix these issues!

Do NOT use Sandisk ULTRA cards, they are NOT compatible with GoPro cameras (and in my opinion they are just TERRIBLE cards).

I’ve made it a habit now to just go ahead and do a full format on my PC prior to using a new card. I then format again in the camera of course. Ever since doing this AND switching to Samsung Pro Plus cards, I’ve not had issues with my Hero 10’s. Thanks for the video!

After experiencing some "SD Card error" messages on my motorcycle ride today, I've decided to check for solutions. I'm following your instructions right now: full format the SD on the laptop, factory reset the GoPro (Hero 6 Black) and THEN format the SD inside the GoPro again. I hope it works! I reformatted the card in a computer and then formatted in the gopro.
Then set the gopro 11 up in the same way it used to over heat or freeze. On a tripod with the add on screen and an external mic.
No freezing. Tested it a few times

Thanks for this info. Been having issues with the camera powering off for no reason. This solution hopefully will stop this from happening again. Always thought that the GoPro format routine did a full format but according to this video it doesn’t.

You've been a big help to me on these videos and on the forums. Question for you--You mentioned to me that you format on the computer maybe just the first time and then from there format on the GoPro. May I ask how you transfer your data from GoPro to computer? My process for most of the time has been I remove the SD card from the GoPro, put it on a reader on my Mac, copy all the files over to my computer for later editing, eject the SD card, put it back in the GoPro, and then format from the GoPro to erase the card. Is this how you do it? I have a new SD card that I've used for about 3 weeks, formatted on the computer the first time, but just recently had an issue of it looking like it was recording, red light blinking, but when I stopped I found the counter had stopped and the camera was locked up. Had to remove the battery. So, I've done a full format again on the computer. Wondering if something in my process is causing an issue. Thank you.

You defiantly have to do this for your SD cards. Had issues and this got rid of most of them.

Just found your tips...Have a GoPro hero 8 I got in 2021…Worked flawlessly up til this past September when I went to Disney World with family…By day 2, it kept randomly shutting down saying SSD card error, please repair…Did repair a few times…Since then, it was doing the red light of death...I finally got the red light of death 2 stop...Now, I get freezing up, locking up in settings, or corrupting footage…B4 I start recording, it turns on and off a few times w occasional freeze…Took it to Hawaii as a (U BETTER WORK OR I'M TOSSING IT INTO THE OCEAN) type of thing...Day 1, I had a red light of death moment...Day 2 minimal freeze but had 2 corrupted footages…Day 3, it started working like nothing happened and lasted all day...By Day 4 thru 9, the wheels just fell off...Freezing, turning on and off a few times, weird beeping, sd card errors...I just gave up the rest of hawaii...I am getting frustrated at this non sense of (I will work, I will decide not to work) shenganians...I have a GoPro Volta that is a month old…When my hero 8b works, the volta is awesome...I’m using SanDisk 256gb…I don’t kno what 2 do…I’m very frustrated and getting super aggravated…I am currently trying your method b4 I GO INSANE...Luckily, I have gopro support on standby to send me a replacement soon...

Thanks for the video…..I never did this to my card for my hero 11……however I can take nice videos and also view media in quick app…..but when I try and upload to the cloud, the GoPro simply powers off and I can’t get my videos into the cloud….iv watched videos on how to upload to the cloud and I think I’m doing everything I can correctly, any opinions??

I did a format on GoPro, laptop and GoPro again last night and this morning I did a factory reset on GoPro for first time in over 2 years. I been getting shutdown itself and wasnt sure if it’s the SD card or overheating. I did buy a GoPro fan though

Not sure what’s the best advice. Formatting your SD card before or after factory reset your GoPro.

Good video, what happens if the card has been formatted on a Mac and you use windows to re format as in video will it erase any mac formatting. I have now turned to Macbook for video making but my original pictures and sound are on windows. I want to save windows pictures documents video and sound music on an external hard drive and use on Mac but seems to be two different entities, any tips.

First time to to do this for my SD card and I unclicked the fast format box and clicked Start. That was last night about 10:pm and it is now 7:30 in the morning and the SD card is just over half way completed. Not the 20 minutes you stated.

What is up with it taking so long?
