Hi, my name is Shane Paul Neil with City Coach Multisport, and today I'll be talking about 3 tips to make you a better 400 meter runner. My first tip is that training for the 400 begins before you even step on the track, especially in the off season.

The 400 meter dash is one of the most grueling sprints that you'll ever experience. Going on longer runs in the off season, of multiple miles, will help build up your cardiovascular before any time you step on the track. My second tip is to focus on your running form. Because of the length of the 400 meters, it's very easy for your form to break down as you fatigue. Drilling, and drilling proper technique, will help ensure that even as you're becoming more tired, your form stays the same. My final tip is to focus on your upper body strength. While the upper body is not thought about very much during sprinting, it is extremely important in the 400 meter dash.

When you're coming down the straightaway to the finish, it's your upper body that will help propel your legs forward. Your ability to pump your arms quicker than your competition will help your legs move faster, and you'll get to the finish line faster overall. Those are my three tips to a faster 400 meter dash.

In High School I went from 1:45 to 1:11 to 1:06 it's been 11 years since then but I compete in the Special Olympics and my time last year was 1:24 I'm hoping to break it this year

I ran the 400 meter dash yesterday . But I never practice for it so I had no clue what to do . When I was running I was in 1st place but then my back started hurting super bad and that caused me to slow down . I was almost to the finish line too . It’s sucks .

Dude so we have a very competitive track team and I am doing 400 relay girls and I am the first leg, and one of the other teams has a really fast and good 400meter girl for frost leg. Dude I’m freaking out

Can somebody help please??? I'm 13 years old (year 8) and I run the 400m in 1:03 but I need to get it down to 1:01 in 3 days :). When I run the 400m I have no real competition in my school, which is a benefit in some ways but when I'm trying to get 2 seconds off my time it doesn't, for the first 300m of the 400m I'm fine, but when I get on the final 100m stretch my speed really seems to decrease and I end up adding several seconds to my time, when Ive been training??? I'm a good
sprinter and have good stamina, if that helps.

Tried 400 last year and I like long hurdles. I'm basically trash, but for my last year, I want to turn 90 seconds into 60. And I could possibly try long distance?

It's a dash and is still a sprint... running on your toes is correct.  That's the reason why the spikes on the front of your foot.
