Did you know that a spot has a 6% risk of turning into a scar?

Acne scarring is miserable. It can take lots of treatment and expense to improve, and resolution isn’t always possible. And some individuals have genetics that mean they scar worse than other people. It’s just one of those things.

So the best thing is to focus on prevention. I want to teach you 4 easy things you can action today that’ll reduce your risk of your blemishes leaving a scar on your skin.

Firstly when I talk about scarring I don’t mean flat dark marks, I mean indentations. That means collagen loss in the dermis has occurred and also potentially some tethering, where the base of the scar is stuck to the surrounding tissues.

As always thank you so much for watching and for all your support!

1. Use a retinoid
2. Seek appropriate medical help (see a dermatologist)
3. Don’t use physical exfoliation
4. Don’t pick or squeeze spots

It would have been so amazing to have this information available to me as a kid. I have scarring and am forever reminded of the teasing, bullying and the literal pain from the acne itself whenever I look in a mirror or take a photo. It's the only thing I see and I think it's truly kept me back in a lot of ways. Thank you for giving this advice freely to those that need it most.

The hydration tip is so necessary. I've been applying a second layer of my moisturizer at night these last few weeks. I typically do my routine two hours before bed, so right before I turn in, I put on another layer and my skin is happier for it 💖

Thank you for addressing this topic. I ant agree more about seeing someone highly qualified to address old acne scars. I saw a cosmetic plastic surgeon, he went to deep with a C02 laser and I’ve been dealing with hundreds of milia on my cheeks for 3 years. Do your homework when choosing someone to help you.

Closed comedones and the like dont just dissapear. The stuff has to come out. Gentle physical exfoliants (pads you apply toner with for example) once a week or so open up closed comedones so that you can gently squeeze the contents out. Again, the stuff needs to come out some way

“…Driving inflammation deeper into the dermis….”

This explains why that particular spot I picked so much 45 years ago left a dark spot when it encountered sun without protection for many years and then, after menopause, when I used adapalene in an attempt to reap some anti aging benefits, that that spot produced a pustule just like it did 45 years ago!!! So wild, but probably predictable if I’d known that Adapalene was particularly formulated to treat the health and renewal of pores. (Right?) Hope I can gently transform to smooth skin from here.

My dents have drastically improved via my nightly use of adapalene 0.1% I was losing hope for a longtime! However i notice the massive difference in the last few weeks, after having been using this for a year. I did get impatient at times and decided to have a month or so break from it but since June this year I've been using it every night so I owe that to have seen a huge improvement so all in all DON'T GIVE UP and KEEP HOPE and most of all BE PATIENT 💗

How do you shave then if you have acne? Which makes things worse because the razor cuts the top part and leaves behind red inflamed skin and scarring?

Dr.Banting, I am writing to you about a video posted 3 years ago on the must haves fir sensitive skin. Yiu mention the laroche posay toleriane fluid and cleanser. I have super reactive sensitive and and I want to love the laroche posay, I used them for two days but experienced some burning from it. It was tolerable but I got scared and stopped everything. I know they have minimal ingredients and it was starting to really help with redness but the burning had me worried and didn't want to have yet another allergic reaction so I returned the items back to the store. Can someone be allergic or sensitive to thermal water? Or is my skin barrier so compromised, and I have not used any moisturizer in about a year that know my skin is just not accepting anything at all? Please help...
