Why You SHOULD Buy a Used Range Rover

Nearly everyone can give you a dozen reasons why you shouldn’t buy a used Range Rover, and I have a video coming soon on why you should avoid buying one. But with all of the people saying you SHOULDN’T do it, it’s not the full truth. There are actually reasons it is something you should consider. In this video, we're going to talk about some of the reasons you should buy a used Range Rover L322.

Driving Experience

It’s one of the biggest perks of owning any Range Rover. There’s absolutely nothing else like it on the road. The commanding driving position is one you’ll continue to look for in every other car you drive, and even though they’re larger than some small towns, they aren’t too horrible in the corners.

I’ve been in nearly every modern luxury SUV from Escalades to BMWs to Mercedes, and none of them compare to the pure experience that the Range Rover offers.

The driving experience of the Range Rover is reason enough to at least test drive one. For those of you who own one of any generation, you understand just how perfect the driving experience of the Range Rover is.

Capability
It’s hard to not talk about capability when talking about any Land Rover product. Whether you’re looking to drive up a mountain or haul a boat across the country, there’s really no better SUV to use. The Range Rover will tackle every challenge with ease while keeping you comfortable with your cooled seats. A surprising amount of people don’t seem to understand the capability that the Land Rover Range Rover actually has, but um.. it’s kind of in the name.

In fact, there are times I’m surprised the Range Rover is so effortless. Driving off-road in the Range Rover somehow feels like driving down a bumpy highway in even the worst conditions. Everything comes natural to the Range Rover, and it almost feels as if there’s a small army controlling all of the different aspects of the terrain response, traction control, and differentials.

When I first bought it, I took this one through some seriously dangerous terrain, and my ignorance was completely ignored by the Range Rover as it effortlessly crawled through it all. Looking back, being so bold was a bit dumb with my lack of experience, but the car barely stretched it’s legs to get out of it.

Reliability
Hear me out for a minute. I know saying a Land Rover is reliable is shocking to most people, but if you find one that has been taken care of and CONTINUE to care for it, do the scheduled service, and take care of the service bulletins, you’re probably going to have pretty trouble free ownership.

Most issues with Land Rovers come from not being cared for. You’ll experience hiccups now and then over the course of years of ownership, but it’s highly unlikely that you’ll buy one and the engine will seize the next day - if it’s been taken care of.

Overall, the Range Rover has been a very dependable car. Most people refuse to believe that, though, because their aunt’s sister’s best friend had one in college 20 years ago that was never taken in for service. Then they’re surprised when it breaks down for the first time.

Are they perfect? Not at all. There are common problems with each model - just as with ANY car. Maintenance gets ignored on luxury cars, though, because it’s “too expensive.” But if you remember that the car was closing in on $100,000 new. It still has the maintenance costs of a car that was $100,000. Maintenance doesn’t depreciate like the car. Parts and labor aren’t cheap, and that needs to be remembered when buying one.

Value
Last but not least is probably the most important topic. It’s nearly impossible to find a modern car with the prestigious name and luxury of the Range Rover for the same price. Even the later model years of the L322 are cheaper to purchase than a new base model Corolla. When you compare the value you’ll get from the two as far as luxury, driving experience, capability, and social status, the two barely compare.

The point is, though, that there are few used cars on the market that offer more for your money than a used Range Rover. Sure, you still have the maintenance to deal with, but if you plan that out, it’s not bad whatsoever. Most issues come when people don’t know what to expect or how to plan for it. Likewise, the same could be said for maintaining ANY luxury car.

Great video. I completely agree with your points. They’re great cars and they get under your skin so you won’t ever consider driving anything else

I own a 2011 Range Rover supercharged. I LOVE IT. It was a one owner, I saw the service records from the previous owner, I bought it from a Land Rover dealer and, it's a joy to drive. Just like any other vehicle, if you prepare yourself for things down the road you won't be disappointed.

We are long time Range Rover fans and have owned a totaI of 8 in our lifetime. Now that we are retired, we own two Range Rovers, a 98 P38 and and a 06 322. The 98 I bought with the intention of finding a great accident free body with no rust and good paint. My plan was to have the engine, drivetrain and all engine related stuff rebuilt or replaced so that I could have a daily driver. I now have an excellent 98 RR P38 with low miles that looks greatand runs awesome. We have taken several vacation trips this summer with 0 problems.
We got the 06 RR on lease when it was new and then bought it after the lease and it is my spouses daily driver.
Our secret to owning Land Rover Range Rovers is to find great local mechanics that can fix anything. We have a small shop in our town with great mechanics that let me buy the parts and charge me for the installations. For example: Range Rover dealer wanted $3, 000 for a transmission problem on the 06 which cost me about $700 at my local shop. So our cost of owership is comparable to that Toyota Corolla mentioned in the video.
We love our Range Rovers and will probably keep them forever.

Never had a Range Rover yet but ive had many used BMWs that i loved dearly. They are also supposedly unreliable and never had a single issue apart from basic maintenance which is not expensive if you have good mechanic which you should.

Hahaha if you believe constantly maintaining a Range Rover will “help”. It’s not. Ask Doug Demuro, or better yet watch his vids on his Range Rover 😂

With Range Rovers even a well maintained one does not mean you will not be replacing all the items that have already been replaced before.

And also a maintained Range Rover is also very expensive, but when we have money to buy a Range Rover, we can buy a used one, but I am not so rich to buy it, so I will by the Lexus lx 450, no issues with maintenance , just buy in half or even lesser price, also it looks more better, and I get enough luxury, as a car guy, I don't want that high level luxury, and if I just do some tuning in the engine, I will be able to go much faster than a Range Rover, also if I travel through a forest, the Range Rover will suffer a lot of damages in body panels and the hard wares and also the software, whereas I will not be annoyed with such a problem and reaching home, it will still look the way it used to

The last Range Rover we had was a 05..with the BMW Engine..Vanos, timing chain, a lot of cooling system components, and air bag suspension consistently failed..maybe the vanos and timing chain didn’t fail after replaced..but everything else did..always dealer serviced..still the best suv I’ve ever driven..but without warranty..they can keep it

This is a great video- I subscribed and liked as I can truly relate to it. I bought an 03 Range Rover HSE in 07 for 38K. I kept it for 10 years and when in 2017 the transmission died with 189, 000 on the clock I traded it for a 2012 HSE Supercharged. I got $2500 for the undrivable 03 and spent 30K on the '12 SC. In 10 years I can honestly say that I would not recommend anyone buying a BMW 4.4 RR. I Spent over 40K in repairs including changing my air suspension after 90K miles twice and eventually doing the expensive repair of switching to coils. Once I switched to the 2012 it made my old 03 feel like a go cart- the improvement was unbelievable. After 105K miles on my '12 SC though I had to replace timing chain, Supercharger, fuel injectors, spark plugs, front suspension rods and got 4 new Pirelli Scorpion Verde 275/45/20 tires and one tail light that was leaking that needed to be replaced. Total cost for 2017 alone on top of my purchase price was 12K- so I was beginning to feel like deja vu with when I had the 03. I now have 117K miles on it and have gone 9 months and 12K miles without a single service cost. It drives like a dream. I'm thinking because I have now replaced so many of the major flaws with it with new parts now it just feels like a new vehicle. I have already decided I am going to drive it until it can't anymore. I has aged beautifully- black on black, leather barely has a crease on it, even on the driver's seat and people truly think it is brand new. I have had the same issue with you with the sun visor, but I really don't care. It fits in the broken hook just fine and because the car drives so smoothly it just stays in place and doesn't move. I honestly have never tried my volume knob because I use the steering controls constantly but the last time I checked it, it worked fine. I don't have any creeks or squeaks like yours (probably because it has never been taken off road). Even my rubber seals around doors and roof are all perfect. I only had to replace both rubber seals on the edges of the rear windshield which had totally corroded. So all in all I am going to keep this as long as I can going forward- I love it that much. I f eventually the cost of any individual repair becomes more than that of the vehicle itself, as what happened to me before then I will just search for the best Range Rover 40K can afford all over again. I just want people to know that- yes it is more trouble free to buy a new RR SC and get the warranty, but if you truly weigh up the cost of depreciation of buying an out of warranty 4 year old and use that savings for the cost of repairs moving forward it will cost you way less money in the long run- especially if you invest the difference on a new car payment. Range Rovers get a bad wrap and the older models should for their reliability, but the driving experience of a newer model and improved reliability for me at least is well worth it. We are all individuals though of course and they are not for everybody nor will many agree with my summary here. Thank you so much for all your information though as this is a great channel to dicover for someone having a very similar vehicle experience.

What do you think about the used 13 Range Rover sport sc?

I owned the Range Rover Classic until it was 13 years old and currently have a P38 that I bought new in 2001. I do as much work on it myself as I can, and avoid the dealer like the plague! There are places with quality parts such as Atlantic British. When the air suspension fails, get the air suspension replacement kit that gives you a regular suspension and that will eliminate a lot of future Range Rover repairs. If you added all that I spent on it and divide it by the 17 years that I've owned it, it actually is pretty affordable.

I’ve had a LR D1 and currently have a 2003 LR D2. They are great rigs. If you wrench on your own vehicles, the cost to maintain the vehicle is manageable
