Great video. My first lens for my a6000 was a 18135 from Sony. There is nothing particular good about that (tbh it is a very slow lens), but i really like having the ability to zoom far with 135mm focal length.

My first lenses were the old kit lens (18-55 mm which came with the Nex-5) and the old silver 18-200 mm. This was a great combo to start with because it covered a huge focal range and offered the choice of a light casual use lens and an all in one lens with long range. As a new photographer this was great because it allowed me to see what focal lengths I tended to use on trips, during indoor events, museums, galleries etc. and they allowed me to understand the settings required for various scenarios as well as the limitations of certain types of lenses and apertures. As time went on I expanded on this base with experience and bought other lenses (all Sony) as and when needed for a specific purpose e.g. the 18-105mm F4 for video, the 15mm f1.4 for low light shots, the 16-55 f2.8 for general use etc. In the meantime also upgraded my cameras from time to time from the NEX-5 to the a6000, then a6300, now a6700. I am a big fan of the "all in one" 18-200 to this day because of its range (especially with clear image zoom) and versatility, especially on trips where carrying this one lens plus the 15mm f1.4 prime lens covers almost every need for my tourist shots. I have many more premium lenses now but the 18-200 still gets a lot of use even after over 10 years. Unless you know right away what type of photos you want to take I think versatility is the best thing to start with.

Hi! I am planning to get my first lense. Which is better for traveling and portrait shot, the sony fe 85mm f1.8 or the sigma 16mm f1.4? Thanks

As an a6000 user whom started with its kit lens and then got sony 35 f1.8 a couple months after, if i was to go back and be lucky enough and can have first 2 lenses (budgetwise), i would go for tamron 11-20 f2.8 and a good ole sigma 56 f1.4 or sony 35 f1.8. My frustration with my own a6000 is getting the wide angle shot that i would like to have. And yeah the 56mm/35mm lens is just awesome focal length for street portraiture. So yeah, you guys can go on scroll now haha a

I have the a6400 with the sigma 16mm abd I just bought the 50mm OSS and I am super satisfied with the pictures and the videos that it produces. I really like the bokeh.

I bought the Sony 50mm f1.8 OSS as my first prime for the a5000 and it was a total failure. Why? Because indoors it's too tight, and for casual shooting of friends and family, it's too tight as well. Like when being in the park or city, you have to stop all walking activity, gain some distance to your subjects and take the pic. Killing the mood and dynamic of the situation in an instant. I fortunately sold it without a loss after half a year and only a dozen pics, and bought the Sony 35mm f1.8 instead. And THAT lens (50mm FF equivalent) really brought me forward. So much fun to use. So many great memorable pictures taken. So this Sony 35mm, or the Sigma 30mm f1.4, I would recommend much, much more as a first prime. Once I became more secure with the 35mm, I added the Sigma 56mm to my collection and learned to handle that. But for a beginner, a 50mm / 56mm might be buzzkill. And we can't afford to loose people in the crop mirrorless market ;)

My first lens for a6000 was Sigma 16mm. Why? It is because the sharpest lens for a6000 and if technically speaking, it has large aperture so that I can use it for night photography as well and great for landscapes and even for portraits. Portraits taken by 16mm is more like cinematic I think :)

Awesome video as always! Fantastic material, and far too few people talk about the benefits of purchasing full frame glass for APS-C in world of Sony! Yes you will pay more if you want the fancy lenses, but that lens can outgrow the APS-C and switching to Full Frame will be much less painful. I did experience the pain of switching from Sony APS-C to Lumix Full Frame and it was painful! 😢

Hi, I've got the a6300. It came with 18-135 zoom and I bought a 30mm sigma 1.4 for low light. Then I traded the zoom added some £ and got the sony 85mm 1.8. Absolutely banger combo.

For APSC I would say that the 50mm 1.8 OSS is a better option, what do you think?
I got mine used for 140 euros and I am very happy with it.
