I like how you divide this into intended use and subject matter. That tells us there is no one size fits all answer. Love your insight!

This was a great subject for a video, especially since the typical online discussion treats all genres of photography as interchangeable and monolithic. As you point out, the better choice depends on your needs. Since the various genres of photography don't share exactly the same demands and challenges, the answer to that question of what piece of kit to upgrade first will not be the same for all types of photography.

Been shooting for years, and while I've borrowed books I've never bought one. I am going to buy your book just to say, "Thank you" for delivering such high quality YouTube content. You content is truly, valuable (especially PictureThis). --Frank

I wish there was a "Love" button because I would have clicked that. Great video. I loved getting right to the point and the ad being at the end. Thank you so much!

For wildlife a better body makes sense to me ; given budgetary limitations and the fact that many inexpensive lens give pretty good performance if not better build quality and dust/ moisture resistance. I’m glad you clarified this, because you have directly stated the reverse in many past videos. Your recommendation of a R5/800 RF 11 combo clearly favors the first rationale thanks for this very concise and clear video. 😊👏🏻

Brilliant! None more so than getting out of your own backyard! I'd rather have a cheaper camera and be someplace I've never been before in my life. As a relatively new subscriber, ya'll are kinda awesome. :)

Really well done video, short, sweet and to the point. HELPFUL.

No direct reference to a specific brand, kudos!!!

Soo poor I'm; cleaning cloth is the only thing I can upgrade.

D7200 with the 85mm F/1.8 lens is my favourite setup to date :)...Keep up the good work, guys! <3

It might be worth mentioning that there's a significant difference in background blur between crop sensor and full sensor cameras. Something to keep in mind when you're looking to upgrade for portrait work.

Chelsea and Tony...from an extreme hobbyist looking to grow (and I truly am with each photo season and event I attend and practice with), THIS video has helped answer this exact controversial question if the ages. What I LOVE most is th you put it simply in images(side by side) Cheap camera/expensive lens...Expensive camera/cheap lens and explained what we were seeing- phenomenal!! EXACTLY what I needed!! I have rented many full frame (currently have a crop-Nikon D7100...LOVE IT...but...looking for more) decides to buy a D800 and now looking at a high end lens to add to my collection of "decent" lens. 1st choice? Sigma 85mm Art 1.8 (SWEET lens...rented it and cried when I took it back). Can only imagine how great my results will be on the D800 after loved ones on the D7100. Thanks again for this video!!

What a nice clip, everyone should see this.
But my question is this, what if you are shooting videos? Which should care more about?

Thank you! I am guilty of thinking more about gear than what I'm photographing, so this is a great wake up call
