I bought the Tamron 28-75 because I knew that the smaller size would make a huge difference in my shooting style. If I had been shopping for a standard zoom a few months later, I think I likely would have gone with the Sigma 28-70.

When I need maximum versatility a 24-70 f/2.8 is the goto lens for me. You can vlog with it, shoot street at 35mm or 50mm, grab intimate closeups at 70mm. It’s a great lens to tell a story with and can be supplemented on either end as needed.

On those occasions where I shoot video of my kids playing hockey (or ringette) from the stands, the 24 - 105 is just perfect. 70 just doesn't get you in close enough.

I have this lens for my Sigma FP and it damn near never leaves my camera. Because of the near linear settings I can attached a wireless follow focus on it and it is flawless. Love this lens!

I have the 24-105 and its great as a walk-around / hiking lens and is very sharp and the IS allows quite good handheld down to around 1/3s. I bought a second hand Tamron 28-75 for inside work along with the 55 and 85 1.8 primes. If the Sigma had been around when I got my kit I may have gone that way though!

I have the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 on my A7III and i'm totally happy with it, but you are right with the 24mm vs. 28mm difference, but i still love my Tammy and it has a great image quality, for this low Price.

When I jumped from Nikon to Sony several years ago the 24-70 f2.8 GM was one of only two lens i owned for years. It really is the perfect focal length and aperture. If I were starting now, I would seriously consider the Sigma, but the dust particles in the lens elements do concern me. I’ve heard that from almost every reviewer. Not quite sure what that means for longevity, image quality or weather sealing. I checked my GM and after 4 years of use, I don’t see any dust in the lens element. FYI, GM’s go for around $1800 on the used market, so it gets closer to Sigma in price if you go that route.

I own the Tamron 28-75 and as someone who’s used this for over a year, it’s still pretty decent for what it is. It has actually fallen and broken (due to plastic), but I fixed it myself. If this were metal it would be even worse surprisingly. Despite that, the auto focus on Tamron is amazing for a third party lens, hardly ever notice focus breathing. I also use it for Studio portraits (with strobe/monolighting). Pretty much the only lens I have haha. But Sigma looks promising. Really thinking of picking the 85 Sigma

Awesome video and I totally agree about the 24-70 range. I have the Zeiss F4 version and really like the small size and weight with the OSS built in. Could be sharper but whatever. It works for me! Plus with the ability to go into APSC mode on a lot of Sony bodies you can get to 105 without sacrificing much on video.

Just upgraded from APSC. This Sigma was on my mind, but since I'm gearing more towards hiking/traveling I went with the Tamron 28-200.
No constant aperture, but good overall sharpness and greaaat versatility
