The real name of this city is Königsberg, Królewiec, Kralovec or Karaliaučius, depending on the language. This city has always been called that. Only recently did the Soviets change its name to honor Comrade Kalinin, a Soviet government official responsible for, among other things, the massacre of Poles in Katyn. Many Poles, including myself, have always called this city Królewiec and not Kaliningrad. The recent change of the official name in Polish geographic standards is a restoration of linguistic order and an expression of respect for history, not an attempt to revise borders. After all, if they call the capital of my country Warsaw and not Warszawa, it does not mean that the city is under British, Australian or American control, does it?

I thought the question was "Why Kaliningrad will START Russia-NATO war" not "Why will Kaliningrad be at the center of a war between Russia and NATO war"? just saying.

Poland is not considering Krolewiec it's territory. Change of the name was a bit of trolling but also is more truthful to the historical names (Królewic or german Konigsberg have similar etymology). Kaliningrad name is however an abomination. stalin called it after russian general that murdered poles as a way to humiliate them and remind them that they never will be free. So stopping calling Kaliningrad by his name seems about right.

The West should never have let Russia keep the region after the collapse of the USSR.

Both Kaliningrad and Belarus wish to be 'European/Western' by consensus.

I love what passes for Russian "logic." Whatever anyone else does is an act of aggression against Russia but whatever we do is self-defense. . . while having invaded several of its neighbors in recent memory.

Given the inability of post-Soviet forces to advance with any rapidity through the relatively open territory of Ukraine, the Suwalki Gap isn't a particularly realistic objective for them. Hostile Russian forces in proximity to Poland have an uncommonly short life expectancy - their nukes might be problematic, but their ground forces are, frankly, rubbish.

If I was a russian soldier I would hate to be stuck on a patch of land surrounded by the enemy no matter how many missiles. But thats just me.

Dmitri Medvedev’s laughable threats are a source of great amusement at least here in Finland. It’s a known fact that Medvedev is making these statements while being drunk. So whenever he wakes up from the sofa of Kremlin’s lobby, or possibly from the hallway after a cleaning lady starts vacuuming near his head and he gets a refreshing bottle of Stolishnaja for a breakfast and his hands stop shaking and twitter thumbs are warmed up, our media makes sure to publish everything he has to say as a comedic relief between the more serious news 🤭

You actually meant "occupied Konigsberg". The neighbors are shivering, "oh no, the orcs are coming for our washing machines and indoor toilets, woe us!".

FUN FACT: Russia has sent 80% of its troops from the Finnish border to Ukraine, so they have done the exact opposite of what they said

the whole NATO-Putler/Russia thing reminds of the short video where two dogs are barking at each other across a closed fence door, as soon as the door opens the dogs stop barking, then continue when the door closes. Neither side will make a big move as it will destroy their economies. Basically Russia would no longer exist a functioning state, I dare say the Chinese will annex all the Russian eastern states claiming the lands are historically part of China (technically true).

Imagine the Kaliningrad Oblast becoming a sovereign, independent Baltic state, one of the first post-federation Russian states joining the EU.

To be pedantic, both Severomorsk and Novorossiysk are in Europe and both are ice free.
