Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has renewed concern about the possibility of conflict spreading into NATO’s frontline states, namely the Baltic republics.

In anticipation, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are taking strategic measures to bolster their security and military capabilities.

In this special report, Sky News travels along NATO’s eastern border with Russia, where civilians are mobilising to deter the threat and asks if the UK and other allies should be doing similar.

Asking that man why his home was important to him was a really dumb question Lmao

Being french, I remember my surprise when I learned that at the start of World War I, a third of the parliament emptied out because the members joined the front. It's quite different from the way things are done these days.

There's a much greater understanding of reality and sense of patriotism in the eastern NATO countries than there is in the west.

Why are we not sending politicians to front line.

I remember just before the Ukraine war started when they were playing similar footage of civilians preparing to defend themselves in Ukraine. Same style video.

The rich are busy going to holidays, the poor are busy learning how to fight

Its much more intense while being close to this zone, I remember being in Piaski Poland on summer beach vacation, walking through the forest to get to the sea. I almost crossed a mine field sign. It was like 5 years ago when things were much more subtle.

Russia has already been doing this in places like Chechnya and Georgia.

Estonia has spent over 4% of their GDP, Lithuania - over 2% on aid to Ukraine. And guess what, our economies haven't collapsed

Honestly, on paper the Suwatki Gap looks like a vulnerable spot & obvious strategic target for Russia to connect Belarus with Kaliningrad & cut off the Baltic States; but in reality I believe any attempt would be short lived because NATO would be prepared, tracking Russian troop movements via satellite, and any incursion at that point would be ferociously attacked by reinforced NATO forces pushing up from Poland. The plan would backfire, resulting in Kaliningrad being cut off by NATO. The real point of vulnerability would be the Baltic States’ eastern borders and the NATO forces stationed there would need to be heavily reinforced at the first sign of any Russian forces moving in that direction.

I simply can't see Russia going to fight against Poland, Finland or any country part of NATO. That would require much more resources and military personnel.

Bravely done, Balts, thanks for the model we need to recognise, here in the US AND the EU.

We should listen to these people. They know the Russians and how it is to live under their rule... Big support for Baltic states from Croatia, EU.. We are in the Southern part of EU and are much less exposed to the potential Russian invasion but we've been through war as the last EU member that had a taste of war 30 years ago.. That's why we Croatians know how important freedom is and how hard it is to fight for it... We were in the same situation in 1991 that Ukraine finds itself today.. We were also attacked by the "brotherly" (so they've said) people, the Serbs, who were much more powerful than we (the difference wasn't as large as between Ukraine and Russia since they had double the population but smaller economy) nation..
At first we were defeated in one battle after another but eventually we managed to repel them and take over our whole country... This moment will come for Ukraine too and hoppefuly no other nation in Europe will ever had to endure an invasion form Russia.
