This is amazing because the more 240hz+ monitors become mainstream the easier to buy and cheaper 144hz monitors will be which is amazing.

the industry adopting 120hz as standard makes a lot of sense - 24, 30 and 60 all divide into it perfectly so harder-to-run titles and video content will work seamlessly without having to change refresh rate

the difference between all the 360hz monitors and the new acer 390hz monitors is with the 390hz acer's monitor anti motion blurr works up to its full 390hz refresh rate and not be limited to work up to 240hz like we see with all the other 360hz monitors so far and thats a big deal actually.

the thing people don't often take into account with ludicrously high refresh rate monitors is the juddery look that you get when sweeping your mouse fast in a game. on my 144hz monitor, it was really smooth but the first thing I noticed was that when making quick motions with your mouse you could still see a stream of juddered player models in front of you, fanned out like a deck of cards. something like a 1000hz monitor would make this almost seem like a smooth goopey blur and oh I just realised linus has been talking about this the whole time I've been typing this sentence.

The last few statements by Linus about the animation smoothness becoming more important than simply seeing the information first were kinda cool to think about

To me it's always been about the smoothness. Then again, I don't play anything where 5 ms particularly matters.

We should change the standard from 60hz to 120hz it is different experience

I think we'll eventually consolidate on 600Hz to provide a universal display frequencies able to display 24fps (film), 60fps (NTSC), 50fps (PAL) without having to change settings, then plateau there for a while. Of course there'd need to be powersaving modes with significantly lower refresh rates, but being capable of displaying 600Hz would eliminate one lingering compatibility issue between world wide video formats. (if anyone's curious why 600Hz, it's the lowest common factor that 24fps/60fps/50fps all factor into evenly.)

my gtx 760 will handle this well i think

I really hope we see sample and hold blur go away. When modern displays start displaying things in motion, the image actually loses resolution on those objects and they become blurred. CRT TVs never had this limitation. If you put a sidescrolling game on both an HDTV and a CRT TV you'll see the HDTV start blurring the backgrounds/terrain when the player starts scrolling the screen, while the CRT will hold the detail in focus. I think tackling this display limitation would bring a new edge to competitive gaming.

Motion clarity is amazing on this display. 3 months later and this monitor is killing expensive flagships for hundreds of dollars less.

Not sure if you mention guys, and if we are speaking about the ACER Nitro XV252QF 390hz... it is not because it reaches 390hz... it is because it strobes until 390hz... all the rest of the monitors at 360hz, only strobe until 240hz.... strobing... motion blur reduction... at least this is what has been commented in other different youtube videos... I was pretty interested in this monitor...

Monitors in the kilohertz range sounds crazy to think about. 1000's of updates per second.

u can reach 390 fps if u have rgb cause everyone know rgb gives you a 15% performance boost

@2:00 but the cleanness of the moving images, during turns etc, is why I like high hz. I can’t wait till motion blur becomes antiquated, a horror story of early gaming and big screen movies...

"I'm not about be too interested in going back to 1080p" 🤣
We're still watching YouTube videos at 360p in 2021 here in Sudan 🤣

Can’t wait to one day watch 8k 24-30fps from a phone at 1080p 390hz on a monitor. I’m just saying that the FPS on phone cameras or just cameras in general are not really getting any faster because of the better and better image and video quality where as monitors and displays aren’t getting anymore detailed displays but are getting higher and higher refresh rates and therefor higher and higher FPS

In a 6 min video, after 4 minutes trying to be sarcastic, Linus finally got it in the last 2 min ....

60hz = Mainstream/Minimum
144hz = Sweet spot/Recommended
Beyond 144hz = Optional

The interesting part about all of this is that each person sees issues in an image differently.
Some people are extremely sensitive to jagged edges (aliasing) in an image. So they go to higher resolutions.
Some people are extremely sensitive to blur in an image.
Some people really feel latency all the time.
Me personally 1080P is still the gold standard buttery crisp image of today. 4K/1440P just don't look that much better to me.
But going from 144hz to 240hz was a night and day distinction to me. I notice it much more clearly than resolution.
So when a 360hz monitor gets flack for being "Imperceptible" compared to 240hz.
You gotta realize that not everyone "SEES/FEELS" the image the same way you do.
Its why 1440p hasnt become more widely popular than 1080. Because it isn't THAT much of an upgrade compared to 1080 for some.
Its why 240hz didnt quite overtake the market like 144hz did. Because some people dont see that difference.
Hell I even hear people say they cant see the distinction between 60hz and 144hz as crazy as that sounds.
So try to be open minded.
