Thrawn takes no pleasure in his means to the end. Lothal, for example, he threatened Ezra that he would bombard the city if he refused to surrender, Ezra refused and threatened to kill imperial personnel, in response Thrawn bombarded the city but stopped when Ezra surrendered. Thrawn is not evil, but he is willing to do horrible things for what he sees as the greater good.

Edit: OK. Am I saying Thrawn is on the right side? No. But his views don't make him evil. He still fights with honor and ethics, but I am not saying he is on the right side. Some soldiers and leaders are forced I to a conflict that goes against their ideals, but they are still loyal to their home. Thrawn doesn't like the Empire's xenophobic views, but he still believes he is fighting for peace, which, in a way, he is. In a certain point of view, the rebels ARE terrorists. I mean, no one is innocent in war, rebels and empire have done pretty fucked shit

I absolutely *love* the voice actor who was chosen for Thrawn. He speaks... slowly... almost as if he's dull witted but the intensity and wisdom he shares quickly informs the listener that what he is hearing is careful, planned, measured, conveys complete discipline, and is executed only at the precise time that the speaker wishes. I have never heard a more perfect voice match for a character in the Star Wars universe. Compared to the voice actor playing Thrawn Emperor Palpatine or even Darth Vader (sorry Mr. James Earl Jones) sounds weak.
