I want Timothy Zahn to write a book that is entirely Thrawn quotes that make him basically the quintessential Star Wars philosopher. The Star Wars equivalent to Aurelius, Plato, Aristotle, Confucius, or any other. It would be great.

Thrawn is like the star Wars version of Uncle Iroh.

"We all have regrets. However just as we have hopes that will never be fulfilled, the key to a satisfying life is to accept those things that cannot be changed and make a positive difference with those that can." -Thrawn

"You must never give in to despair. Allow yourself to slip down that road and you surrender to your lowest instincts. In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength." -Iroh

"How small the pain of one man seems when weighed against the endless depths of memory, of feeling, of existence. That ocean carries everyone. And those of us who learn to see its currents move through life with fewer ripples." -Solas

“We all change, when you think about it. We're all different people all through our lives. And that's OK, that's good, you gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be.” -11th Doctor

At this point, I firmly believe Timothy Zahn summons his past experiences, and converts them into sentences for Thrawn to explain to us in a way that we can understand so we can better prepare ourselves.

Thrawn.... We need an entire SW history course from him I say. Imagine him going through all known history, from the first Sith to Old Republic to Rule of Two to Empire. Never taking a side because of ideals, but simply based on analysing their strengths and weaknesses, their achievements and failures, with calm pragmatism and wisdom.

Every credit well spent, that's what the course or lecture would be....

Thrawn demonstrates the dark side to compassion, and yes, there _is_ such a thing.
Many people confuse compassion for sympathy or pity, feeling sorry for someone. In reality, compassion means viewing a situation from someone else's perspective, as if you had lived their life, walked in their shoes, lived the same life experiences. Compassion means _understanding, _ and from this you gain perhaps the greatest and most accurate insight into the motivations and thought processes of others.
Thrawn is so effective and dangerous because he learned to weaponize his compassion.

To this day the thing that weights the most on me from my army career is that I decided to go on a 10 km run when we got to choose what to do for two hours.

Alright allow me to explain: Every Wednesday we got two hours free time where each of us got free reign to decide what we wanted to train. So if you felt you needed to train cardio or lift weights then you could do that.

This day I decided that I was going to run the 10 km run and beat my personal best, for a while I thought about just running several laps in the 2km route we had on base but it just isn’t as fun. Ya know?

This would turn out to be a decision that would haunt me for months to come. You see, fifteen minutes after I ran off a group of young recruits exited the gym right next to where the 2km starts. One of the recruits, a young kid that turned 18 *just* in time to sign up for this batch of recruits, looks very pale and when questioned says that “I don’t feel good…” and collapses to the ground.

His… His comrades did everything right, you know? They immediately started CPR, they called for an ambulance, one of them ran to the gate to tell the guards what was going on and to let them know that an ambulance was gonna arrive shortly, they got one of the defibrillators in the gym, they got the attention of several nearby soldiers (including one of the medics in my platoon) to get more help.

They did everything right but… Well…

It would later be revealed that there was something wrong with his heart, some defect that he apparently had since birth but somehow, someway, they had missed it during the physical examination when he enlisted. Day to day he was okay and just like anyone else, but the added strain of basic training (where you are physically active pretty much around the clock) was too much and it just.. Shut down.

I know that logically, there was nothing I could’ve done that they didn’t do and that me being there wouldn’t have done any difference. But at two in the morning, when you just stare up at the ceiling unable to fall asleep, none of that matters. At two in the morning, I hate myself for going on that run.

Getting told this after having lost the first war in guild history as the siege-team leader of the B-Team really hit the mark. Thank you Mitth'raw'nuruodo foy our many lessons.

I love the cut to Yoda. Nice choice. Really signifies that the Jedi weren't to blame for what happened. Sidious' Plan couldn't have been predicted or sought out.

I like how folks don't realize this is an AI program loaded with Zahn's voice, reading from Sun Tzu's the Art of War.

If you can learn from defeat why not regret as well?

Thrawn is the Star Wars version of Sun Tzu since they both literally wrote the books on war

This hits so close to home, truly this advice is on the mark.

What type of world do we live in when we take psychological advice from a fictional military commander of an evil empire? 🤔

Not gonna lie. That took me back to the 90s when I read Heir to the Empire for the first time. Zahn still has some chops. And I suppose I'm not immune to teh nost-algia.

Thrawn is Star Wars' Sun Tzu.

Change my mind.

I can definitely see Thrawn as a narrator of a story.

Fuck. Wasn't expecting that level of profound. In practice there's no difference, and wondering what other action could've been taken only adds to the scar tissue. Its just another way to say don't dwell in the past, but it explains why its pointless.
