I really needed this today. My ex just texted me saying that she's "been thinking about me a lot" and "wondering if I still think about her", 5 months after she told me she didn't want me in her life anymore. What's worse is that her daughter and I got really close and it hurts thinking about how hard the breakup must have been on that little girl. I was fully invested in our relationship before she broke up with me. It's not my job to fix what she broke. And I'm sure as hell not getting back together with someone who doesn't know what she wants. Neither me, nor her daughter deserve to get hurt any further from her actions

You have to see how many narcissistic people kept their ex under their leverage and coming back to their life when they felt they need it. And the other person felt so “ honored “ for them to still want them after they discard you, or cheated on you or mistreated you.

I honestly think it depends on the reason why the two broke up in the first place . No relationship is perfect, & sometimes there isn’t something major that caused the relationship to end .. it’s simply right person wrong time. This isn’t always the case, but sometimes it is.
