Cops try to get away with illegal searches all the time, and they're sometimes successful. They will cite a bunch of subjective things like "nervousness" and "furtive movements" in order to prove they had enough for reasonable suspicion.

Most lawyers would advise to make sure cops can't see anything in your car. Keep everything that's not essential in your glove compartment or center console. Invoke your 5th Amendment right to remain silent so you don't give them any reason to think you're "nervous" based on your speech.

I used to only worry about this sort of thing going into Mexico. My how times have changed.

The fact that they said seasoned cops are more willing to violate rights and lie shows problems with the system as a whole. They are incentivized to lie and escalate instead of being honest and calm. We need a complete overhaul of our justice system, including the courts, judges, lawyers, and district attorneys. As of right now, we have oligarchy enforcement, not a justice system.

This is why you have a dash cam with at least an interior camera but better to have three or more cameras.
