Being a cop sounds like the perfect job! You get to yell at people, steal their ice cream, and then get a new dog as a reward.

This general vibe of "here's how to interact with a wild animal without getting eaten" is just wild to me

I tried this once and the cop didn’t answer if I was detained or free to go. He just walked back to his car and didn’t come back until a K9 was there. This works in theory, but if they want to they will search your car

"Getting 'lawyery' about where I'm coming from can make a cop more aggressive..." Lmfao he speaks such terrible yet true words.

Pretty sad that we have to be lawyers in our daily lives to protect ourselves from the people who are supposed to protect us. 🙄

"Are you detaining me?"

*Gets dragged out by my facial hair and curb stomped for "resisting arrest"*

Got stopped just a few weeks ago while driving my brother's car. My parents (who are addicts) were using it beforehand and had substances in the car. But the reason for the stop was to train the officer on how to conduct searches. When I denied them the search they brought the k-9 out and it got a hit. Luckily I was able to let them know what was going on and they didn't find anything anyway because my brothers and I had cleaned it out before I started using the car. Turns out, some substances can leave a scent in the car for up to six months. Make sure to deep-clean your cars when you get them back from friends and family.

Notice how even the lawyer's leading advice is 'Evoking your rights will likely upset the pig'

Cop: *pulls me over*
Me: *starts watching your shorts*

NO! Do NOT tell an officer where you were coming from. Period. Someone matching your description just performed a hit and run at the grocery store and you just incriminated yourself. They are not your friends and they only want to arrest you. Your rights are your friends. Do. not. self. incriminate.

Cop: "Where you coming from?"

Me: "Your moms house"

The most non-confrontational but still firm response when asked if they can search your vehicle, is: "That would take a long time and I'm in a hurry to get where I'm going so I don't consent."

It's a very human response that anybody would understand and still upholds your rights.

"If you got nothing to hide, then you won't mind me searching your vehicle."
"But if I have done nothing wrong, then why do you want to search my vehicle?"

"Get the emotional support one instead."

Hahahaha!

" Wait here until I call for a K-9."
Actually you can't call a K-9 without probable cause or a warrant.

Driver: "Are you detaining me or am I free to go?"
Cop: "I'm going to be deliberately vague in order to make this as difficult as possible without actually detaining you."
Driver: "I'm gonna go then."
Cop: "Gun, I choose you!"

How often does "Am I being detained?" actually get answered with "no" by the cops in these situations? And since when do the cops care about not being able to "legally" keep you longer than the purpose of the stop?
