Well ... not really. The blue color really has nothing to do with temperature. It deals more with the physical wavelength of the light. Blue has a much smaller wavelength that red, and thus it passes through the water better.

with all the advanced technology we have right now, Im sure that intro can be reduced.

I'm teaching this to my students and the explanation was great! My students and I were so excited to see that it was shot in Roatán, since that's where we are!

Thank goodness that the anime I had been watching brought up the therm Rayleigh scattering and that the therm got stuck in my head, otherwise I would never have found your amazing account! Thank you so much, I actually completely understand it :D

Back when I used a CRT, for some reason the red color stopped working. The end result was exactly like this ocean depth. Reds were black. With a strategic slap on the top, the reds came back momentarily. Eventually the slap frequency had to be increased to keep bringing back red and then finally it permanently went away.

Such a detailed explanation...cleared all my questions. Thank you so much

One thing I don't understand... Why such a good and informative video like this has so much lower views?? I don't know "jack" about producing a video but I know that it cost money to do it like the crew, filming gear, traveling, location, editing, post producing, converting, etc, etc.

Is it bad promotion?
Or is something that science need to explain why.

:) THE most annoying? That seems harsh... :) But, I agree, it's unnecessary on Youtube. This was made for DVD distribution and the long intro was made so students had some time to settle down before the video started.

The intrinsic color of liquid water may be demonstrated by looking at a white light source through a long pipe that is filled with purified water and closed at both ends with a transparent window. The light turquoise blue color is caused by weak absorption in the red part of the visible spectrum.
For most substances, absorptions in the visible spectrum are usually attributed to excitations of electronic energy states. However, water is a simple 3-atom molecule, H2O, and all its electronic absorptions occur in the ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum and are therefore not responsible for the color of water in the visible region of the spectrum.

@1:33 won't the violet light be at the base and the red light be at apex due the difference in their wavelength

I seriously LOVE the video. But I have ONE question. How in the whole wide world did they get that submersible and what is he doing alone all by himself in such a dangerous place?
