Not impressed with the Covert Instruments practice lock @McNallyOfficial

I just bought the FNG kit from Covert Instruments, the picks are very nice, but the practice lock is more of a visual tool to see what’s going on, it doesn’t really help with actual lockpicking skills. I made this video after about 5 minutes of fiddling with everything, and neither was my fastest single time, just the best I could get on video.

Since then, I have been struggling with an Ace Hardware 5-pin lock. I can fee everything going on due to the quality of the feedback the tools give, I just can’t make the “real” lock disengage. Yet.

Not to be pedantic, but CI clearly states in their description that this is *not* a practice lock, but rather a 'demonstration lock' so beginners can see the inner workings of it and grasp the basic concept of lock picking. Hope that helps!

a learning lock that helps all new people is too easy? seems like you did not read what FNG stands for

First off I'm going to say that you're not even trying to pick the pins, you're just jiggling the pick in the lock and hoping for it to open. Second off you're using a demonstration lock and not a practice lock, demonstration locks are used to teach newer people to the hobby how the lock works and how different tools work. Finally I'm going to say that I bought this lock when I was first starting out, it really helped me learn the basics and how locks work. In conclusion you need to work on the basics, learn the difference of a practice lock and a demonstration lock.

Interesting your saying a practice lock is too easy…..

When the clear acrylic demonstration lock meant for showing off the inside mechanics of lockpicking, not actually teach lockpicking, is insanely easy to pick and rake 😡

The picks and the turning tool are well worth the 10 bucks. Now you can get a Master 140 or 150 and progress further.

It’s so you can see how it works and learn techniques and good practice with knowing where the pins are

Demonstration lock 🔐 what you expect not practice lock

They clearly market it as a beginner’s lock. If it’s so easy for you, go buy a lock from the store or find one that you don’t have the keys to get to picking it.

The fng set is like ten bucks idk what you were expecting but still buy a revolver if you want a “training” lock not a toy lock but there would be more training involved if you actually tried to pick it not just jiggle it open you would learn basic spp

Hey Vince - maybe it’s time to consider getting that laser eye surgery. It’s clear to everyone that your glasses aren’t working properly, since it seems you can’t read the descriptions of online listings 👍

It's not a practice lock for starters. It's a training lock for teaching students how a lock works thats why it's see through.
Obviously we pick it but again, they're only for education and certainly not for practicing and refining ones skill set.
I hope this clarifies things for you

I'm just curious, do you go around your neighborhood, stopping along your way to film yourself stomping on little kittens and maybe kick the sh((t out of a puppy or two? Do you get that same proud of yourself feeling you did here?😻😻😻😻🤣🤣🤣

Wtf???!! I’ve been using this lock on my garage door to protect my lambo and bugatti this whole time!! Are you seriously saying that a see-through lock that’s clearly designed to tech “that f* guy” (aka, absolute beginner) about locking mechanism and different methods of picking is so easy to get open??? Noooo waaaay, I’m not impressed either buddy!! Ha! You totally got that McNally guy with that throw in the end, so badass maaaan. Totally was worth posting this online and definitely not embarrassing at all!
But seriously, you should try reading website descriptions of the product you are about to purchase, or get yourself a new pair of glasses. Some common sense would also help in your life, but that’s probably too much to ask of you.

If you think it's easy, then you've probably mastered the practice lock.
Again, this is a practice lock, it's suppose to be easy. Try buying other locks to lockpick them.

It’s a ten dollar kit designed to give you a little taste in lock picking. Most people aren’t going to spend upwards of 80 dollars to buy the Genesis Set, and the CI practice lock.

This kit is an inexpensive way for someone to begin. Top quality tools and a lock to visually understand what is going on inside. I mean, how many hobbies can you start for less than $10?

I understand the frustration. Personally, I think it is a perfect starter training lockset. I mean... let's face it, the name legit means "F*cking New Guy" :D hahaha. I think this is a good, basic tool for anyone who is nervous/scared about getting started with a new skill and/or potential profession. Everyone's gotta start somewhere. For some people, they have to start with baby steps. I find it fascinating watching how other people handle locks when they lockpick them. Your technique on the way you manage the turning tool while holding the lock is different from the way I've seen others do it. Anywho, cheers.
