Protecting Your Children | Narcissistic Abuse

Respect Your Elders? 🕊
Pfffttt…Heck no! 🙅🏾♀️
Kids need manners, sure, but telling them that they must respect someone just because they’re an ‘adult’ is only ever going to end one way:
- People pleasers
- Your children having zero boundaries
- Their acceptance of abuse just ‘because’
- Them staying quiet about abuse just ‘because’
A high-conflict coparent is technically a parent, but your children don’t need to give unlimited or undue respect to ANYONE who emotionally abuses them, uses coercion, disrespects them or puts them down etc etc. Parent or not.
You’re now wondering, well how do I handle that? How the F do I protect my children?
Well, you TEACH your children how to deal with having a parent of that nature so they’re able to:
✅ Set firm & consistent boundaries
✅ Identify manipulative behaviour
✅ Confidently use their own critical thinking
✅ Foster their own healthy autonomy when necessary
When YOU know how to do these things, your children will know as you are one of their first teachers.
Take full advantage of that role ✊
Yes they’re going to pick up unhealthy coping mechanisms and traits from their other parent, they’re also going to trigger you, that’s a given…
HOWEVER you, as their safe and healthy parent have the ability to step up into the role of the most INFLUENTIAL parent regardless of the fact you’re being countered.
