How Do I Correct a Mistake I Made on My N-400 Naturalization Form?

"So you've patiently waited for five years (or three years if married to a U.S. citizen) and you're finally eligible to apply for naturalization to become a U.S. citizen. You gathered all the evidence, filled out the N-400, Application for Naturalization, checked your responses to all questions two and three times, made a copy of the petition packet and submitted everything to USCIS with the filing fee.

Now, it's weeks later, you're looking over your paperwork and realize that there is a mistake on your application! Depending on when you catch the mistake and the seriousness of that mistake, there are several options when it comes to correcting mistakes on your N-400."

Hello everyone and welcome to our video! We have received a lot of comments on this regarding mistakes made on the N-400. We wanted to share some points that are universal to each case:

1. Online Filed Petitions: If you filed your case online, when you log in to your myUSCIS account and select your N-400 case, there is an “Evidence” or “Documents” tab, where you can upload additional evidence to USCIS. For any N-400 form questions that require updating/correcting/changing, etc. you should type up a word document (i.e., an addendum) specifying the exact question(s) you need to update/correct and provide the correct updated response(s). Then convert that document to a PDF and upload it to the Evidence/Documents tab on your N-400 case in your myUSCIS account.

2. Paper Filed Petitions: If you paper filed, you should call the USCIS Customer Contact Center (1-800-375-5283) or use the askEMMA feature on the USCIS website to notify them of the needed changes to your application. You should also draft a cover letter, a document (i.e., an addendum) that specifies which questions are being corrected and a new N-400 (with all your same original responses + the correct responses to the questions you originally filled out incorrectly) and mail that packet to the USCIS Field Office processing your case. Also, more recently, USCIS is adding paper-filed cases to online myUSCIS accounts, so if your receipt number starts with an IOE, there is a good chance your case is online and you can go to your myUSCIS account or create one and submit an update similar to our first point above for online filed petitions.

3. Finally, Whether you filed online or paper filed, always bring the printed document (i.e., addendum) with the updated responses to your in-person interview to hand to the officer that is conducting the interview and notify them of the changes.

Thanks for the info !
I have a question regarding my N400 application that I filled out online.
I don't have access to the email address I listed in the application for contact purposes ( not my USCIC online account, but the email they ask for in the application itself). Do I need to call the 1800 number to change the email? or do I wait until the interview?
Thank You!

Hello! I had my N400 interview last week and it was recommended for approval, they provided me right away with the Oath Ceremony for next week. Reviewing my application I just found out that on my employment history during the pandemic I entered an incorrect date during an unemployed period, it should’ve been a week after the date I entered, to match the ending of my employed period. What should I do?

I had help feeling up the form by an attorney and it looks like they used my family name before I got married. If I have to use my marriage name I might have to call to fix that error . On the receipt notice of action It says verify your personal information listed above . If you need to make any changes, immediately notify USCIS . Would everything be okay if I call and have them correct the error ?
