Started keto in 2018 and switched to carnivore about a year ago.

After eating the Standard American Diet (SAD) for decades, my serum triglycerides had climbed to a sky-high level at 576 mg/dL (vs. <150 normal reference range). I figured that switching to an ultra-low-fat plant-based diet would reduce my trigs to within the normal reference range. After 2 years of eating low fat plants my trigs dropped to 265 which was still well above the reference range's upper limit. But my fasting glucose had risen to above 100 placing me in the pre-diabetic category. After scouring the internet I stumbled upon a presentation by Dr. Stephen Phinney, PhD who touted the favorable metabolic effects of what he referred to as nutritional ketosis - specifically a reduction in trigs and increase in HDL-C. It seemed counterintuitive that consuming the vast majority of my calories in the form of fat would reduce the amount of fat in my blood. But Dr. Phinney's data convinced me to give nutritional ketosis or "keto" a try. Much to my amazement, Keto brought my serum triglycerides down to 70 mg/dL in a matter of months. That was back in October 2018, and I've remained ultra-low carb ever since. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I also lost 40 pounds in the same timeframe and have kept it off to this day.
