I find this is true especially with my bench, I need enough reps to get my form nailed down.

Personally i’ve just been doing one top set for 2-5 reps then two back downs with 75% of my 1rm for my squat and bench (i just don’t like deadlifting so i don’t really train it). I’ve found that this seems to work best for me as i’ve been gaining strength and feeling great for all of my sessions.

I'll try adding backoff to deadlift after this. Just realized that I cannot handle many hard sets on a single session and just pushing simply brings more harms than goods.

you should be going heavy with a weight you can control and just do one set to failure.. anything else is a waste of time.
