As has been told to me countless times, "You simply have the wrong perspective." What's the term for when people won't look at contradictory facts for fear of losing faith?

We know for a fact that both Jesus and Paul preached a false belief that the world around them was soon to end. The truth was that the world would end for them but humanity would carry on without them for another two thousand years.

Were they wrong about the end? Let me think about that for 3 nanoseconds… YES!

“Things only seeming to be wrong” is an excuse used by most religions. I just find it dishonest when they don’t find that excuses valid in any other religion but their own.

I think the destroying of 2nd Temple and Rule of Titus was the apocalypse..

I asked my family recently, "what if Paul was lying about his "vision" about Jesus?" Whay if Jesus actually never came to him?". As usual, ducking and diving. Christianity doesn't stand up to scrutiny. I speak on Christianity because it's the religion I'm familiar with. I have a few of Dr Ehrman's book. Just using his facts, that "messiah", "resurrection" sounds make believe😶

They all thought Jesus will return during their life time. " In this generation . In this life time"

Remember, Paul wrote thst the end was near, first. The anonymous Gospel writers could have put Paul's words on Jesus' lips.

*Paul’s Predictions*

Paul thought that the end was near and that Jesus would return soon after he wrote these words. (Philippians 4:5)

Paul believes he is living in the “last days.” (Hebrews 1:2)

Paul believed that Jesus would come “in a little while, and will not tarry.” (Hebrews 10:37)

In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 Paul stated: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: And the dead Christ shall rise first: *Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: And so shall we ever be with the Lord.”* Paul shared the delusion, taught by Jesus, in that he expected to be snatched up bodily into heaven with other saints then living, who would, thus, never taste death. The use of *“we”* clearly proves as much. It is difficult to deny that Paul was certain that the end of the world was coming in the lifetime of his contemporaries.

Like Paul, I've been stoned once. I have been smoking continuously since 1972...

A better question would be were they ever right? About anything? Not counting predicting an event long after it happened.

It is ALL mythology, all of it, every religion is all mythology.

Bart ehrman needs to be protected at all costs. But he looks weak and unwell. My fear is if he passes away all of a sudden. I hope he lives to be over 100yrs at least. We need him here on earth.

*Jesus is clearly speaking to the disciples and gives a timeframe for when the Son of Man would come.*

*"Jesus sent these twelve out, * charging them, saying: Do not go into the way of the nations, and do not go into a Samaritan city. *But rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.* And going on, proclaim, saying, The kingdom of Heaven has drawn near" (Matthew 10:5-7)

“Truly I say to you, ***you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes”*** (Matthew 10:23);

For the *Son of man* shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; ***and then he shall reward every man according to his works.***
Truly I tell you, ***some who are standing here will not taste death*** before they see the *Son of Man* coming in his kingdom (Matthew 16:27-28)

Truly I tell you, ***some who are standing here*** will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God (Luke 9:27)

Truly I tell you, ***this generation will certainly not pass away*** until all these things have happened (Mark 13:30)

*He says that the coming of the Son of Man will be accompanied by:*

The sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.

Then will appear the sign of the *Son of Man* in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the *Son of Man* coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Truly I tell you, ***this generation will certainly not pass away*** until all these things have happened (Matthew 24:29-34)

There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the *Son of Man* coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. When you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

Truly I tell you, ***this generation will certainly not pass away*** until all these things have happened (Luke 21:25-32)

He also falsely prophesied to the high priest, the Sanhedrin and Nathaniel.

*Jesus falsely prophesied to the high priest and the Sanhedrin*

Jesus also falsely prophesied to the high priest and the Sanhedrin (assemblies of either twenty-three or seventy-one rabbis appointed to sit as a tribunal)

You will see the *Son of Man* sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and ***coming on the clouds of heaven*** (Matthew 26:64) (Mark 14:62)

Except the high priest and the Sanhedrin never saw Jesus sitting at the right hand side of God, or coming on the clouds of heaven, or any such thing.

*Jesus falsely prophesied to Nathaniel*

Jesus also falsely prophesied to Nathaniel when he declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”

Jesus said,  You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that. He then added,  ***“Very truly I tell you, you will see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man*** (John 1:50-51)

*Nathaniel never saw any such thing. Neither did anyone else.*

Jesus saying to disciples, 'i will go ahead of you into Galilee.' then why have Mary take and remind them?

In the context of Paul and 1st century Palestine a Jew was someone who could trace their ancestry back to the tribe of Judah. Anyone outside of that the generic term "Gentile" was applied to. Anyone that was not an ancestral Jew was considered a Gentile. Those from other Israelite tribes other than Judah were considered Gentiles.
