Okere Falls is a beautiful waterfall located about 25-30 minutes from Rotorua. The hike to the falls is easy and takes about 30 minutes one way.

There are two parking areas:

The official car park at the beginning of Okere Falls Road has toilets and picnic tables.
A small car park at the end of Trout Pool Road, which is 800 meters further along. There are no facilities there.
The hike starts from the official car park and follows the Kaituna River. You will first reach Okere Falls, which is a 2-5 minute walk from the parking. From the lookout, you can either return the same way or continue the hike to Tutea Falls.

Tutea Falls is a 15-minute walk from Okere Falls. The waterfall is a popular rafting spot, so you will see lots of boats and kayaks on the river. You can watch the rafters and kayakers go over the falls, which is an unforgettable experience.

From Tutea Falls, you can either return the same way (15 minutes) or continue the hike to Kaituna Falls. Kaituna Falls is 15 minutes further along the track. However, there is no public transport from the end of the track, so you will need to organize your own transportation or return the same way (1 hour return walk).

Here are some tips for hiking at Okere Falls:

Wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in.
Bring water and snacks.
Be aware of the weather conditions.
Be respectful of the environment.
I hope this guide helps you plan your hike to Okere Falls. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and the adrenaline rush of watching the rafters go over the falls!
