The whole point of the Byzantine Rite is to restore the pre schism unity of the Catholic Orthodox Church. So the terms should be used interchangeably as was before the schism

Eastern Catholic here. Definitely consider myself fully Orthodox, fully Catholic. Its anachronistic to say otherwise. Especially since that's literally the textbook definition of how most Eastern Catholic churches came into existence: Orthodox (either Eastern or Oriental) ecclesial bodies who came back into full communion with Rome.

I feel so blessed to have the eastern rite liturgies in our Holy Catholic Church.

Thank you, Father! From an Orthodox friend.

THIS is key — you have to know what happened here:

The Acts of the Eighth Œcumenical Council (just released)

— Only if you understand what happened in 879 in this Council will you understand what happened at the Great Schism — and thus which is the Church which is faithful to the Apostles and Fathers.

Orthodox just means the original as far as I can see if you get back as far as your can to the Original church is would look more Jewish. Now look at an Orthodox or Byzantine mass and what do they look like Jewish. When I convert I will regard myself as an Orthodox Byzantine Catholic. For short I will say I am a Byzantine Catholic.

It's not too separated churches like the body of Christ is separated. There is only one church. It's the Orthodox Church and the Roman church is outside of it.

How many Churches were in the wilderness? Does say that Christ is the Head of the Churches, or of The Church. How can there be 2 churches? Are there 2 Bodies pf Christ? Is Christ divided? 😢

Melkites would argue this. There was a schism in Antioch and the patriarch of Constantinople didn’t confirm there election which was against the canons. Then a pope granted the Pallium Cyril Tanas and then Greek Orthodox became Melkite Greek Catholic but Orthodox use Catholic in the creed of Nicaea with little c. So it’s complicated

I love this priest very much. A very wise and holy man. But he gets it wrong here. All Byzantine rite Catholics are (or "should be") Orthodox Christians living out the holy Orthodox faith "inside" the Catholic communion of Churches. If we don't adopt this phronema than we are nothing more than Latin Catholics with a funny looking mass.

I mean we're orthodox, just not Orthodox
