My path: In 2015 I big-time disengaged from politics. I started taking my kids on cool trips. I found really positive Youtube channels (mostly travel/outdoors). I decided to give 100% in my marriage. I looked for positive things to say about people rather than negative things. Life is hard but we are generally able to control some aspects of our mental health!

When I had major anxiety 23 years ago I learned a technique called "Thought Stopping." When I would obsess on a problem over and over again I would consciously make the effort to STOP for a minute and think about what's going on around me. It worked. I learned a lot of techniques in therapy but in the early days Thought Stopping saved me.

Omg, I was just thinking and wondering how I can stop my negative thoughts that are totally irrational. I wake up with anxiety most mornings and think of all the worst-case scenarios my mind can possibly conjure up, making me feel paralyzed with fear. I have to start getting myself sidetracked with doing something, just anything to get distracted.

Great info. I also find that walking in nature, can instantly shift your mood. Even a 10 min walk, really releases anxiety or even depression. While walking, remind yourself of two things yoyr grateful for. It changes everything. 🌿

I retired a little over a year ago from a very toxic work environment. My boss was very narcissistic. It took me a while to stop waking in the middle of the night dreading going in. Even now those thoughts enter my mind, and pile on top of other family concerns. Thank you for suggesting redirection as a means of changing my process.

I had really good cbt therapist years ago, she always said as soon as you think a negative thought, “ cancel it” and then redirect, it’s been years and I had forgo how helpful

When I spout out too much negativity, my wife gets on me to focus on more positive things, she’s absolutely right. I have to check myself every now and then.

🙌👍Great video. Tapping is great for anxiety as well. We can totally redirect and regain control of our thoughts. The ones we can’t stop let them pass right through and pay them no mind. 💪🙏👍

Probably the first step to help rid of negative thoughts is to leave or distance yourself of the negative environment. When I left home and stayed in the dorms at the university the distance from the negative enviromnent helped me navigate my thoughts as I did not want to become like my dad who was a negative person. I became aware I was becoming like him and so I started editing my thoughts. Replacing a negative w a positive thought. I think your environment shapes who you are and you need to fill as much as you can w positives. We have to reprogram our brain to go from the negative to the positive. Brainwash ourselves from the negative to the positive..

It's been a difficult time of late...and I normally overcome negative thoughts but feeling unwell from a painful arm injury. Here in the UK, the constant bad news is depressing plus the winter and long dark days hits hard. I retired this year and still adjusting. Started EFT from your recommendation and really helps, especially if done first thing. Brad Yates is wonderful. Thank you Holly.
