I've eaten pumpkin seeds for almost my entire adult life (I'm 67), and I've never noticed any physical or health problems from eating them. I eat 3 tablespoons of raw pumpkin seeds a day, and the only side-effect I've ever noticed from eating them is an increase in libido.

I've been eating pumpkin seeds since I was a 9 year old kid (now 66). I never had a problem with eating them; never experienced any kind of side effect that I know of. Way, way later, in my 50's, I discovered that eating pumpkin seeds are good for overall prostate health. I was actually advised to go back to eating pumpkin seeds by a real gp medical doctor as part of my prostate reduction routine. He admitted he east pumpkin seeds too. I was taking Flomax and eating pumpkin seeds (soaked and dried) every day. Inside 2 months my prostate shrunk back to normal. But I kept up this Flomax/pumpkin seeds routine for another 6 months. I now eat a small handful of filtered water-soaked pumpkin seeds 3 to 4 times a week. In nearly 5 years, I haven't experienced any more prostate problems. So I'm staying with the pumpkin seeds. That said, I had a good friend in my childhood who would vomit if he ate pumpkin seeds. And not only eating them but just being close to them would make him nauseous. So maybe there is something to what you say about the hazards of eating pumpkin seeds -- maybe for just SOME people. But for me there's never been a problem from eating them.

I'm not stopping eating raw pumpkin seeds. Like all seeds I soak them in water for 8 to 12 hours, dry them and have never had any problems. You're the only one who has ever said this about pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds. I'll continue to do what my own doctor says. ❤

At 76 and having eaten pumpkin seeds all my life and so far free of pharmaceuticals
I am not stopping now, I eat everything that I like. Never worry about it. I cook my
meals...I have olive oil everyday, good salt, coconut oil in my black coffee.
Supplements and all that my body feels happy with... to each their own.

With all due respect to this doctor I will continue eating pumpkin seeds. There's a difference between pumpkin seeds and organic pumpkin seeds. I tend to use the latter and I have not noticed any problems with my well being rather feel a whole lot better when I eat them and I eat a lot of them.

So true! My dad ate pumpkin seeds every day. And I honestly believe it's because of those damn seeds my poor dad only lived to 102 years 8 months. Damn those seeds!

No problem, you remove lectins from pumpkin seeds.
Cooking, especially with wet high-heat methods like boiling or stewing, or soaking in water for several hours, can inactivate most lectins. Lectins are water-soluble and typically found on the outer surface of a food, so exposure to water removes them.
