You're a literal lifesaver! I slacked off on learning Kali and finally returned today, only to discover that I'd completely forgotten the complex manner in how I'd typed my initial password for the machine. So glad I checked the internet before deciding to go through the inevitable pain and time of having to reinstall the whole thing.

You earned a subscriber, I wasn’t paying attention when I installed Kali to repair windows. I know my way around Debian and Kali but didn’t think to use the bootloader

Thank you! You saved my life! We made dual boot PCs last year, and I couldn’t for the life of me get the password to work, even though it was an easy one. Turns out it was the user name I was getting wrong, now I have stored it somewhere. It’s been about a year since I could access Kali. Yippee!
Now to work out why it starts Kali first and not Windows the default.

Everything works up until having to reboot the final time. Reason being is I am not on a virtual machine. I have a dedicated system. Reboot command doesn't work what do I do?
